Hi all,

I got caught last month after 17 years of, um, not getting caught. I have just paid my £100 tax contribution online at penaltynotice.direct.gov.uk and was expecting to receive a "Payment authorisation code" to put on a form and send away with my license for processing. I received a "Transaction Reference" code, but I think that is something different as it is about 30 digits long - far too big to fit in the box on the form!

Does any other unfortunate soul have experience of how to retrieve one's authorisation code, or how long it takes to (presumably) come through via email? Thanks!

I am bumping this, as I still haven't heard anything, despite the payment leaving my bank account. I have tried ringing the regional fixed penalty office, but their number is constantly engaged and I can't find any alternative contact details. I have also tried putting my details into the payment site again but it says "your penalty notice has been paid" with no further info.

Should I just put the massive transaction reference number on my form and send it in, or do the DVLA employ the kind of jobsworths who will bin my form if there is any sort of mistake or deviation from process on it?

Any advice much appreciated!

Are you trying to call at the same time each day? I found Thames Valley's one really easy to get through to, maybe try as soon as they open then a few times throughout the day.

I've tried them over a dozen times throughout today and yesterday and just get an engaged tone. I only have six days before the FPN offer expires (21/04 will be 28 days since date of notice), and four of those six days are easter bank holiday! I have no idea what to do now . . .

Is there an email address for them? I've only had dealings with Thames Valley who I'm sure have an email address so the others should have too.

I can't find any other contact details apart from a postal address, which is of little use to me due to the time restrictions. Current plan b is to include a brief covering letter explaining payment date, scan of bank statement showing payment made, and all other info I have. Hopefully common sense will prevail, but I would welcome any better suggestions!

Have you googled them? Failing the email, a letter should suffice.

The form just has a phone number (01702283860) but google has given me an address in Southend IIRC. No email details though frown

If that doesn't work, ring 101, ask for the relevant force then when you get through ask for the central ticket office
