If you can find me one single change in policy that was directly affected by an e-Petition, I'll eat my beard.
Road pricing springs to mind.

The linked article simply shows how sad and apathetic this nation had become that when they feel so strongly about an issue, the best thing they think to do is do add their name to a digital list and think that's going to make a difference.
And the alternative is???
Are you seriously telling me you cannot think of a better way of voicing your opposition to something than writing your name on a webpage?
What's wrong with using the e petition along with other campaigning methods? Nobody has said that we should rely on the petition alone. Another method that springs to mind is errr - oh yes, posting something on Pistonheads. biggrin

Valid point, will take a combination of all methods to make our political masters sit up and pay attention, especially with a general election looming in 2015 wink

Signed but I doubt it'll do much good, they're going to save the planet by dropping the speed limit to 60 laugh

Bizarre. When I opened that petiion it stated 809 signatures. After I clicked the confirmation mail and the petition re-opened, it also said 809 signatures! Something wrong or slow update?

That's not entirely true. I wrote to my MP a few years ago to complain over the sneaky position of the local scamera camera partnerst van and I received a visit at 10pm one weekend from an off-duty firearms officer to discuss my comments made in my email. Apparently the MP had referred my email to the Chief Constable who then got off his knees and sent the bobby round to my house to discuss the matter. Unfortunately for said MP my email contained a disclaimer in the footer which he broke by forwarding it on, so I might still be up for a few million in compensation.
