Car thieves - likely sentence?
Discussion

Hi All
The thieves that stole my car have pleaded guilty, I think to multiple thefts. They are Eastern European and I am unsure whether they have previously been nicked over here, I suspect not.
Any idea what sort of sentence they'll get?
A fine and victims compensation of £25.The thieves that stole my car have pleaded guilty, I think to multiple thefts. They are Eastern European and I am unsure whether they have previously been nicked over here, I suspect not.

The big surprise for me is that they bothered to investigate/charge thieves. Are you friends with people in high places?

Any serious answers at all?
Nobody can answer your question ...It depends on the circumstances of the offence/ offences, previous convictions, etc etc.
If it's a straight up UTMV the maximum sentence is 6 months imprisonment - work down from that, so, probably - not much ....
If there are aggravating factors they will also be considered ....

No aggravating factors as far as I know.
They have been on remand since December so in light of your comments they may be sentenced to the time they have already spent behind bars, might they?

Which is why I mentioned that we assume no previous convictions, multiple thefts.

If they're on remand there's more to it ....No aggravating factors as far as I know.

That could be due to a number of things, some of which you may not be privy to ....
Unfortunately, you won't get the answers you are looking for on here.
You'll have to wait and see

4 months on remand?, they'll have served their time on remand I reckon given the info you've stated. No aggravating factors as far as I know.

really depends on what they end up getting charged with, and also the factors involved in the theft,
was it aggravated, was it during a burglary etc etc
cant honestly answer without knowing the full details,
anything froma couple of years at the sharp end right down to a community order although the fact their on remand suggests there is a lot more to this than simple twocing

How did they steal the car? There is a massive difference to getting in it and driving off when you go in the petrol station to pay with the car engine running, and breaking in your house, tying you up and pinching the car that way.
If there wasn't any violence or threats then you should really be expecting them to get a sentence that is wiped out by their remand time. Bear in mind the 4 month remand time they've done = an 8 month sentence...

Okay, the answer is.....[drumroll]
Of the co-defendants, the one with the greater volume of evidence against him... 4 years 6 months imprisonment.
The one with the lesser evidence 12 months.
They also seemed to have a large sum in cash at home, so perhaps I will see my uninsured losses back too.
I am quite pleased with this. The sun is shining too. What a lovely day.
The police did a good job here and got a result, well done chaps.

Surely you are friends with the Inspector at your local nick and the Judge at the magistrate court.
