Of yoa follow the road markings you can't get out the carpark.
The yellow areas are no parking, but also have arrows showing 'down' only. smile
Try following it on the map.

I would say that the OP has right of way.
The hatched areas are clearly side roads.

Except, the hatched areas are arrowed down.
Even though it's not highway code markings, it's quite clear that the horizontal road has no marking and the vertical road has some marking.
If I was driving verticly I'd assume the horizontal road had priority.

What I find different now is the lack of oil stains where the cars are parked. Look at any old aerial photo and every empty space has a huge oil stain on it.
British Leyland no longer make cars. Coincidence?
bks - all old cars were/are like it. My old Fords leaked worse than the BL stuff.

With no give way markings, I think any sensible person would assume that the main thoroughfares along the rows would take priority, and extreme care would be needed when merging from the short yellow box areas. It does sound like she was not taking enough care. The use of the yellow boxes is confusing, and could mislead people into and assuming it is safe to clear them by driving straight on, as she did.

I agree with your take on this OP.
Back in the middle ages when I took (and passed) my test, the route included a couple of 4 way junctions with no priority markings - they all seem to have vanished now, but IIRC the rule was to proceed with caution. Now everyone has to be right and wrong and everyone has to be blamed for something I guess we can't cope with the idea any more.

OP - I agree the markings are confusing, but again, these days just marking out the bays isn't sufficient to prevent tts parking any damn place they like and blocking the access routes.

ETA - in any question of who has right of way - it's always the other person cos they think so.
