If you 'shop a suspected drink driver - does anything happen

I inadvertently shopped someone for drink driving, they couldn't prove he was driving but he was still received a short ban for drunk in charge. All dealt with quickly and he was convicted on the strength of my written testimony.
All in all a very positive experience for all concerned bar the scrote
How do you shop someone inadvertently? All in all a very positive experience for all concerned bar the scrote

Exactly... If he is a real policeman, I can only imagine that the majority of the people he deals with on a daily basis will come away having negative impressions of the police.
I suppose it depends in how true someone's forum persona is.I got the impression from the 'x-box and iPhone' comment that it was a clear pre-judging of me as a young person.
Of course, I *do* have an x-box and an an iPhone, but that in no way defines what I am like, either in life or at the wheel of a car.

And I've already told you that you are mistaken but appears I was right that you own the items. The items were mentioned due to their high value and ability to turn even the most hard nosed anti establishment person to calling the police and requesting service.I got the impression from the 'x-box and iPhone' comment that it was a clear pre-judging of me as a young person.

I dont care what you're like in real life, how old you are or how well you drive and it seems to be you that's intent on making an issue of your age not me.

I rang up about something else, turns out he was over the limit too.
Result. Wouldn't want to derail a young life, he'll be paying for it through insurance for a good few years, so it should be a good reminder...

Yup, was in a bit of a quandary afterwards as it turns out he's a young sparky who works eighty miles away. He only got a two week ban and a hefty fine, hopefully it's enough to convince him to change his ways.

It's often the way with drink drivers that they rely on a licence to work. Personally I'd see that as being quite precious as no work = no mortgage payments. No idea why they do it but they always turn it onto the bobby "yeah thanks mate I'm going to be out of work now". Oh well, perhaps you should have taken a taxi or a bus if its that important.Wouldn't want to derail a young life, he'll be paying for it through insurance for a good few years, so it should be a good reminder...
2 week ban?, lucky lad but hopefully it set him straight.

Good job someone grassed him up then really
Maybe it is, however, verbally it is a bad thing that we seem to have a 'grassing culture' in society now.People do make mistakes and it seems some people are keen to jump in, ruin their lives and then gloat about doing so.

So on one hand you think he should have got a longer ban but then think its bad that we have a 'grassing culture'?, OK.People do make mistakes and it seems some people are keen to jump in, ruin their lives and then gloat about doing so.
It's not a grassing culture its about people reporting behaviour that they don't find acceptable and I'm glad people do. The only people responsible for 'ruining lives' are the people who think its a good idea to show no regard for anyone elses property, safety and often lives.
Long may it continue as far as I'm concerned, it shows that there are still decent people about and society isn't as doomed as some might think.
Edited to add: recently I attended a report of a traffic collision. Pissed up bloke tboned a car with a family coming home from their 16 year old daughterd birthday party. She died in the back seat of the vehicle, her parents had already been extracted. She was stuck in the wreck for a few hours whilst the car was cut apart around her to remove her body. Now if someone had grassed him up yeah he would have maybe lost his job amd ruined his life but it would have saved an entire family getting their lives ruined and prevented a dead 16 year old girl.

I'm not some do-gooder who thinks people should get light sentences for crimes. However, people grassing up their neighbours is close to a vigilante society. It is not healthy, and it has been encouraged by successive governments as part of a 'divide and rule' culture. Even down to the last government specifically running adverts aimed at encouraging people to report benefit cheats. It's not a grassing culture its about people reporting behaviour that they don't find acceptable and I'm glad people do. Again, I'm not encouraging these crimes but setting us plebs against one another is not the way to a healthy society.

Well well well, the reason I reported this offence is I thought a neighbour was in trouble. Turns out that wasn't the case at all but I always look out for my neighbours.
Bet he's delighted to talk to you now, having cost him his license.....Like I said, I look after my neighbours.
