I have no objection to this person being allowed to get on with his life, and I have no reason to think he wasn't punished sufficiently.

It's just that when someone with a known tendency to exaggerate claims to be working as a solicitor (not an easy job to get into at the best of times), when he has at least one criminal conviction. I'm a bit sceptical.

I certainly don't believe, and have never suggested, that a motoring conviction has any bearing on someone's ability to be a solicitor.

That could be a valid reason:

You wouldn't believe what I know on a few police officers. Fakers exist. Then again I get the impression from my MP and PCC that the police elected them and that's who they represent.

Seems OP is concerned about a braggart claiming to be a Solicitor, maybe a bit of 'holding out' going on, although not necessarily if he uses a different name for it.

However that check will not show someone who doesn't currently hold a practising certificate or is currently not on the roll. There, you have to be careful to describe yourself (or correct others in describing you) as a former or retired Solicitor (or bd, pick your prejudice wink)

Woah there. A solicitor...exaggerating a claim? You can't be serious. I bet no solicitor IN THE WORLD, EVER, has ever exaggerated a claim.

I have a criminal conviction for criminal damage, i received a small fine & a slap on the wrists.
I'm just starting a Cilex course for law.
I had to go through checks etc & they accepted me.

The apparent notion that a driving conviction should blight someone's career seems to me mean spirited, and it's also unrealistic.
Not always though:

I mean it's not as though thumping someone in the street is like a driving offence.

Aye well there are different rules for those whose greatest achievement was to single-handedly (is that the right expressionrolleyes) keep a certain Chinese restaurant in business....smilesmile

ETA: Mind you, being married to Mrs Proudie (cf Trollope) is quite an achievement too....
