Please excuse my ignorance on this matter; why the end of the month? Is there a 6 month rule or some other factor?

The authorities have 6 months to present the case to the court. It often goes close to that limit. I would give it 8 months before you can be pretty certain that you won't hear any more. (Until you find out you have been fined and banned in your absence because you didn't turn up to your court appearance because the people who live at the out of date address on your V5 haven't forwarded any post eek)

Paperwork arrived this PM; fair enough.

Will plead guilty, attend court and hope for the best!

89 in a 60. Any up to date bets on the outcome?

I wouldnt drive to court, but depends on your defence, if you have circumstances that you need a car for, as in, really need, you might get a fine and thats it. I'd be thinking banned for a fortnight, £300 fine if it's a bad day, 12 points, keep licence if it's a good day

Wow what are the odds? On the random day you pick to say you haven't received anything, the paperwork then arrives a few hours later. Unbelievable.

I had but a few months before my SP30 and three points are to be erased from any need to advise insurers. Five years is a long wait for something that THE LAW sees as a three year thing!

Having, just the day before, returned from hooning around parts of Germany ( cloud9 ) I got up at aaaaaaaaaargh o'clock and pointed the car in the direction of Smithfield market for the purposes of buying much meat. A few days later I received a notification from the City of London police that I had been doing 30 in a 20mph zone! AAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!! FFS!

It was my fault and I have readily accepted a speed awareness course. It still annoys me though. Getting done for speeding at 30 mph on an empty bridge when no-one is even fecking awake!

OP, it'll be 3 points and a £60 fine. I was doing 87 in a 70 zone many years ago (A21 Kent) and that's what I got. Unless they take 'previous' into account but I'd guess not!

89 in a 60 is 29 mph over, yours was 17 mph over.......something in the back of my memory says 26+ mph means a bigger penalty. Perhaps I should google it?

Thank you.

I'm on 6 points so another 6 will mean a ban; joy.

79mph in a 50 was 6 points & £240 for me four years ago, that did go to court though.

Prior to that 74mph in a 50 was 3 points/£60(before the increase).

Both bright, dry & clear 9 am sunday mornings on dual carriageways.

UPDATE:

I have heard nothing further since the letter in April asking me who was driving in the above speeding issue (I replied saying it was me driving and was told I would hear from them); offence was on 17th (ish) April.

Is this normal?
6 months isn't up until mid October ...

Amazingly the summons turned up on the very afternoon that he chose to randomly resurrect this thread.

  • ***Court update****
I was in court yesterday and I think I was very, very lucky.

6 points already on my license and now caught doing 89 in a 60.

I got a 14 day ban, no points and a £500 ish fine.

I was informed by the magistrate that it could easily have been a 6 pointer, totting up to a total of 12 on my license, and therefore a 6 month ban.

There were some mitigating circumstances....

You have been very lucky.......so learn from it. Do everyone a favour and keep the speed down.

If you must drive at daft speeds, come to Brands Hatch for a track day next month (2nd December) and join seven TVRs, a Ferrari 458, several 911s and a host of other cars on track. We find it helps us keep our licenses by doing the fast stuff on track. Reduces the need to do it on the road.
