Credit card details through the post
Discussion
Just filling out an application form for something and I reach the payment part.
The options are:
1) Cheque/postal order
2) Credit/Debit card
I cannot do '1' due to not having a cheque book.
On '2' it asks for:
Is the card an amex/visa/mastercard
Card number
Expiry Date
Security Code
Is there nothing against companies/charities asking for your card details through the post? I hope I'm not the only one that finds this a disturbing practise..?
Thanks,
Dom

I would ask them how their request for your credit card details through the post aligns with their compliance with PCI-DSS.

As a merchant (from the PCI-DSS website):-
"If cardholder data is stolen – and it’s your fault – you could incur fines, penalties, even termination of the right to accept payment cards!"
Assuming it's a small organisation, perhaps even not for profit, a bank transfer is probably best, if you want the protection that credit card purchase gives you need ask them how you can do it over the phone.

How are they going to be able to take card payment if you don't provide the information they need to take card payment?
Is it not more secure over the phone? If an employee of said organisation was going to fraudulently use your data, they could just as easily make a note of it when on the phone as they could copy it from a form.

How did you receive your credit card?Did it just magically appear in your wallet or did it arrive by post?

Sounds very dodgy, and very unsecure to me.The options are:
1) Cheque/postal order
2) Credit/Debit card

Is it not more secure over the phone? Even if there's nothing against companies asking for your details through the post, there's nothing against you choosing not to send them through the post if you don't want to.
