Scam

Oxford English Dictionary:-

Scam:- Dishonest, a fraud.

How is it a scam? If you exceed the posted speed limit, you commit an offence. How is that a scam?

Call me stupid but I have been driving around the stretch of the M25 at Clacket Lane for a number of years and have recently been caught at 108 going under this gantry and am currently waiting for a court date. The variable limit wasn't in place so not done by one of the overhead cameras which I stick to vigorously.

Waiting, as there are so many people being caught by this camera that the courts in Sevenoaks and Chatham cannot keep up with the demand according to the guy at Motor Lawyers who by the way have been excellent.

Apparently within 6 months these 'Safety Cameras' will be all the way around the M25 and switched on all the time.

So beware.........

Who is the victim ? Who has suffered ? If I injure somebody through my negligence or carelessness then the system may be right to penalise me but for driving at 15mph above an arbitrary limit ? That's just political vindictiveness based on prejudice and ignorance. To fine or penalise somebody some harm must have been done or significant risk created - that's how the law works to ensure it's fair, reasonable, balanced and proportionate - if those are not upheld then the plod fail to have the support of the public and law and order breaks down.

So yes, a fraud and those who support it are to say the least, dim and ignorant.

I wouldn't be so sure. I've seen plenty of posts on fightback forums from people caught at Clackett Lane and Swanley, all at 90+. I don't think even Steve, (whoops, sorry, I mean Emma) would be sad enough to create that many posts from different user accounts.

Recently noticed over the last couple of days that they seem to have erected additional bits of steelwork on both sides on one of the gantrys on the M25 between J10 and J11. They look like it is perfect for mounting a set of these cameras on.
If you are traveling clockwise past the A3 exit, they are on the second gantry you pass iirc
Yup, mentioned it about a month ago (I think on this thread) when they started. All the bits are now in place, just awaiting the cameras, both the ones on the gantry and the one on the pole before the gantry. Interesting it's on the gantry with the HADECS2 camera installed (and flash - but not heard of any tickets) so I guess as the wiring infrastructure etc is already there.

(Not sure if you think the same as me, the support arm from the gantry on the J10 - J11 carriageway looks decidedly 'slopey' to me!! biggrin )

Source please? There is nothing I've seen to suggest this. The map in the courier post above is relatively accurate and shows where HADECS3 is being rolled out over the next 1-2 years. Plenty of rumour and gossip out there to spread yet more FUD though.

I'd say 90+ is the danger zone for these and over 100 is a guarantee you'll get done.

The way I think these HADECS3 sites are being rolled out based on evidence we've heard so far is an initial install with the trigger speed set to something just above 70. This gives them several weeks/months to test the installation is working and adjust/calibrate if necessary. It also spreads the word of a the new site on all the forums, which is a deterrent in itself. Then it goes 'live' and the trigger speed during non-VSL is set to something north of 85.

All IMO of course.

The map in the courier post merely shows where some bits of smart motorway are!! That note is complete bks from start to finish, it's a mish mash of stuff!!!

TBH I haven't seen anything yet to suggest they are going to be all round the M25, however, the fact that the one we have been talking about between J10 -J11 isn't on a smart bit of the motorway kinda of gives you a hint!!

Yes, the note is bks but the map is largely accurate in terms of telling us where smart m'ways are/will be soon.

I'm sure more isolated HADECS3 installations will spring up, but to say the whole of the M25 will be covered by them in 6 months is tosh.

At 80-ish with no TSL in force? Who? Links please.

I was flashed a few weeks ago at just over 80 and nothing's arrived here.

I was on the M25 yesterday between J5 and Heathrow, and saw at least two of the Hadecs 3 installations - I think a bit further round then Clackets Lane. If you know what to look for they are not too hard to spot. If you don't, you will get pinged.

Jeez, I didn't mean at 80 ish, I meant that some are getting NIP's from the cameras now when no VSL is shown, not mentioning speed!! But seeing your asking, all the ones I've seen are over 100, check out pepipoo for some others. Personally, my own opinion, so don't ask for proof, I think the limits are around the 90 mark when no VSL, having said that, cameras I know do give out NiPs haven't always flashed!!!
