maybe they need to brighter than yellow.

By the way "On the side of the honest motorist" is the new bullsh!t line rolled out by the "PR guru's".
They used the same bull on the fuel price trial/huge waste of taxpayers funds and upset a few people biglaugh

It's a peculiar turn of phrase really given that an "honest motorist" would presumably never exceed the limit anyway and would therefore be unaffected either way.

Very nice of them.

"We also are on the side of common sense, and aim to provide a good service to road users. While we understand speed cameras are not popular, they play a valuable role in enhancing safety, smoothing traffic flow and reducing congestion for millions of motorists who use our roads. We use cameras for safety and traffic management only when other more popular solutions like engineering are not adequate to tackle particular problems on our network."

Do these people really believe this crap?

On more than one occasion I've followed people who've anchored on for every CCTV camera and even roadside weather stations paranoid that they might be speed cameras. This has been on the M65 and the M6 around Lancaster which aren't even smart motorways.

I've seen at least one remote roadside weather station clearly marked "this is not a speed camera". I would assume due to previous instances of wronged motorists wrongly venting their destructive and vengeful fury.

Unfortunately it takes more than honesty and a desire to stick to the limit to ensure that you never exceed the speed limit these days.

Same for me with roadside surveyors wearing hi-vis and using a theodolite.

Google Agnotology (science of ignorance).

(over-)simlified, it's about the use of mis-/counter-information to spread doubt and lack of clarity about a subject, as a way of preserving a position that clear and unambiguous facts would kill completely. Good examples are:-
- Smoking kills - big tobacco really went to town in the 70s
- Global Warming - oil firms ditto in the 2000's
- Speed Kills
- ...

I've seen them do it on the main carriageway when they spotted a Patrol Car driving round a service area

I was zapped twice on the M4/M5 very early last Monday morning by these whilst there was a NSL limit (was perplexed as flash wasn't from above). Be interesting to see if anything comes of it.
The enforcement equipment has now been modified so that it is at the side of the motorway not above a lane. One side mounted system can replace up to 5 over-lane systems.
Six points heading my way then.

The PH Inquisition awakes with gusto, once more.

I read that as nationwide, NSL in general, not just the M25.

But, if you want to talk M25, the cameras have, thus far, not been active unless the limit is below 70. That appears to be changing with the new cameras.
This may have already been confirmed, apologies if I've missed it in previous posts....

I have a lovely set of 4 photos included with my documents that arrived today to attend court in March this year that prove it has changed.

10.30pm August last year, pretty empty (there are no other cars on my side of the carriageway in the photos) on the M25 on a Sat evening, signs were definitely not active. Clocked at exactly 100mph. (M25 EPPING, NR M/POST 5536B, ANTI CLOCKWISE CARRIAGEWAY).

I (wrongly) always believed the 'if the signs aren't on, they're not active' myth...you live and learn...

I could say that I'm annoyed, but I should really admit that I'm lucky.....

Traveling clockwise past the M3 (J10) exit on the second full width gantry ( https://goo.gl/maps/R5PrvdN9QbA2). There has been the brackets to mount these for about a year, a couple of months ago a camera got mounted to cover the anti-clockwise carriageway - this has already been mentioned on here previously.

In the past week the camera to cover the clockwise carriageway has been installed so now both directions are covered by cameras.

Ok. Dumb question time.....

The reduced speed limits on the M25... I use that motorway allot usually doing the northern half between the M11 and the M4. There are quite often reduced speed limits. I do reduce speed a bit (and in fairness so do most other people) But rarely does the motorway speed drop to the limit shown on the sign.

Im not really sure what my question is, other than if they are not going to enforce then whats the point?

Peter

P.S. On a slightly different note, I wish they would go zero tolerence on people using a lane marked with an X. The number of times its 4 lanes into 1 but people drive past and expect to be let in at the last moment drives me crazy. Especially when its professional drivers that really should know better. (ok, rant over... breathe)
Dicussed many times here. You should merge when you have to, not 1 mile before you get to the problem.
But X means closed. Not filter in at some point down the road, closed.

It went up overnight at the beginning of this week.

These cameras are multiplying on M25....today i saw new cameras between J16-J15 (anticlockwise) on the same gantry as the "old' speed cameras with another mount (no camera yet) on the northbound carriageway. There are also cameras at J14 clockwise where the slip road joints the M25 before the M4. Is there a map which shows where they are going to be sited?
Anyone know if these are active yet? I've recently noticed cameras flashing in the Hertfordshire section around J19, but never seen much J15 - J17 (presumably Thames Valley patch).

I got flashed at Clackets lane west bound the other week late at night. I was going overy the nsl and no speed on the gantry but I've been reliably informed they work for nsl when not illuminated

Awaiting the inevitable letter from them once lease company pass details on whistle

You haven't been reliably informed. They don't work at NSL they work at a higher speed than NSL.
