We don't want a pattern part for that ^^^^ reason and also because if the fault does come back we don't want "well, you fitted an aftermarket cat, tough luck".

As to how they've diagnosed it, we have no idea, it's a Pug main dealer doing the diagnosis and they say it's a knackered cat causing the issue so that's what we're going with.

If we're being lied to about the parts availability it's Peugeot UK who are doing it - I'm cynical so made sure the missus called Peugeot customer services directly to complain about the delay and they confirmed there weren't any available.

Still, it could be a lot worse, we might be footing the bill ourselves.

Probably exacerbated by French summer holiday factory shutdowns...

I've heard of garages, not just one but a good few

People come in with EML issues and instead of fixing the fault the remove the instrument cluster and put a black sticker over it.

Assuming it's not a UK-only part: get part number, contact a few French Peugeot dealers to check availability.

My experience of main dealers is they read the codes and tell you that you need to replace this and that.

Nearly cost me £700 for a new pump motor when the abs light came on mine. Turned out to be a corroded wire. Lucky I found out before fitting said part.

It's only been bloody fitted!

Car is being delivered back to us today.

Let's see how it goes. It's fair to say my better half is going to take a bit of time to build up any faith in it. If it lasts more than a fortnight without being taken back to the dealers again it will beat its current record.......

How much use have you had with it since May?

If the problem was a major one then I think you had groudns to reject.

The problem with ending up in a repair cycle - is as you have foudn out - a PITA.

I presume you had a courtesy car so its not all bad.

If the fault was a major one then what should happen is that the trader takes the car back fixes it and ells it on. Not leave the customer without their car for weeks/months.

Thanks for reminding me Graham, must do that MCOL form. I did warn you I'd sue if it turned out to be a bag of bolts, I know my rights, etc biggrin

Yes we had a courtesy car for the whole time the car was in the garage. They even sent someone up with the car to drop it off here and take the courtesy car back which is a two hour round trip. Again, I really can't fault the supplying garage as they have been great. Peugeot have been a useless shower of ste, but there you go.

Given it usually took about 150-200 miles for the warning to come up we'll hopefully have a good idea if it's fixed or not by this time next week.

All is well, no more error messages, car is driving fine.

The only problem is I now desperately want to steal the Recaro seats out of it and fit them to my Clio 182 smile

Modern cars with cats and O2 sensors are a pain in the arse.
