If you have the directors number would you get in much trouble for putting it into every website that offer quotes/call backs/spam for everything and anything?

Purely hypothetically, I don't have any nuisance calls luckily.

The obvious reply there is "pardon, you will need to speak up I can't hear you"
Repeat as necessary until they shout,

then respond "there is no need to shout" and hang up.

I ask them to tell me more about it, put the phone down on the table and get on with whatever I was doing.

I bought the CPR Call Blocker. I bought it direct from them - saw it on Amazon. The company is in Swansea and the product is around £40. They are very helpful.

The machine comes pre-programmed with 200 of the most common inbound dialling numbers to your phone. Plus there are many options - I use the one that blocks all calls made using an IP (Computer) dial-up system that most call centres use. The staff are very helpful for advice when I do get a call that gets past the system on how to stop it - and each time when I block that call it doesn't get through a second time - till date.

Highly recommended.

No, Mr "Your Name" is not here, your call has been diverted to the Humbershire Police phone crime unit, can I please have your name?

This should clear them off but I had a guy for 5 minutes utterly confused by my repeated request for his name and phone number. Probably won't stop the calls though.

Do you call them (CPR) whenever a call gets through?

LISTEN !

They are a name to conjure with.
They are ringing me several times a day effectively just letting the phone ring twice or three times. Its not possible to get to it in time. On a few occasions I have answered it and asked them to remove my details. The calls are still persisting though.
They are ringing on behalf of the RSPCA as the number gleefully informs you when you ring it back. It even cheerfully gives you another number you can ring to delete your number. The only thing is that the number they dish out answers then cuts off.
I have e mailed them via their website so we will have to see.
Our numbers are TPS registered and to be blunt anything OTHER than family/ friends or the doctors we DO NOT give out our home phone number. We found a PAYG sim in an old phone useful for other places such as banks etc.
I believe they may have got the number from when I once rang the RSPCA re an ill cat we found. I didn't give the RSPCA any permission to forward on our number

I've been getting plagued with automated 'free boiler' calls on my mobile of late.

I spoke to someone about it once and explained I live in rented accomodation so the offer was of no use to me at all.

Still the calls keep on coming, I've 'pressed 5' again and whichever poor soul calls back is in for an earful.

I've been getting a few about my 'accident' as well, perhaps I should say I the boiler exploded and horribly scarred me after BG serviced it so I need a boiler and lots of compo biggrin

Isn't it about time the UK banned domestic cold calling for any purpose ?

Thought I would bump this thread as new laws look like clamping down on the cold callers -

When I put a phone line in to my room on an RAF station, I kept on getting calls from a window company, they were persistent despite being told numerous times that I lived in MOD property! Eventually, after about the 30th call, I thought fk it, let's have a bit of fun... So I booked a "free estimate" appointment. I almost felt sorry for the Guy who actually turned up only to find that it was an RAF base, & that I wasn't able to meet him & escort him onto camp!

Funnily enough, never got another call from them after that. If you are bored, see if you can actually cost them time & money smile

The other one I have had recently is the infernal PPI bks, but since I answered the phone with a panicked "it's done, but it was messy. There is blood everywhere, the body is your problem, leave the cash where agreed" I have not had a single call off them smile

Ive had a few on my mobile lately - normally just block the number and carry on. Seem to be coming from an 0161 code which i believe is Manchester. Was flustered in Tesco the other day and actually answered, told him to go fk himself lol.

Everyone in the team give me their mobiles to answer when they get an unknown number. This week I've been psychic dave who is really crap at guessing things about the caller, Dave the mountain rescue guy who has really bad phone reception while he's "at work" (the O2 sales guy just gave up in the end!!!) and Dave the custody officer who was keen in finding out the nature of the call and in confirming their full details to check as part of an ongoing investigation with the phones owner.....hours of fun.

Someone asked about 01482851483. WHO CALLS ME SAYS IT'S KCOM Group PLC.

Next update on BT caller display - from ConsumerAction Group
BT charging for 'free' caller display
Do you have a BT line rental which you pay annually in advance?

As part of the deal the caller display service is free, but BT have still been charging many customers £1.75 a month.

Some customers who complained have received a full refund, others have been refused.

Cue weasel words from BT who claim that the customer has to request the free service not just once, but each year.

In other words, if you don't ask for the free service, even if you're eligible for it, you won't get it.

Shame on you BT

KCOM is the local Telephone company in Hull and 01482 is the area code. There are a number of call centres in Hull, include NPower, Resq and Clear call because KCOM are apparently very competitive on price.

Landline, I'm ex-directory and only the parents have the number so it never ever rings

Mobile, if its a witheld number I dont answer. If its a number not recognised in my phonebook I dont answer. I then Google the number, 99% of the time I then block the number depending on findings

Overall I have about one cold call every 3-4 mths, which I dont answer

Same goes for anybody who rings the doorbell, I look out of the window, if I dont know them I dont answer. All fairly straightforward and obvious really

The past week I started getting calls asking for "Joanne" googling the number it seems the calls are from a debt collection agency, I've had the number for about six months and I've had quite a few different debt collectors calling but looking for other people, none of which live here or as far as I know ever lived here, I've also been plagued by the boiler upgrade and automated text messages from 00000000000.
So I've had enough and I just bought a set of new phones, BT 8500 has the trucall system inside it and totally blocks unwanted calls, it's only been a few days but it seems to be working, anyone calling not in the phone memory has to announce themselves and you can block, accept or voicemail the call.

I was going to buy Trucall but thought I would wait to see if the new legislation stops the calls.

Buy the tru-call system, the legislation is bks and won't stop the problem. The penalties are not severe enough, need something like the US where the fine is per incident multiplied by the number of incidents, some of the fines dished out are eye watering and regularly exceed a million dollars.
