insurance question

So just to confirm:
You can buy a banger chose not to confirm any previous convictions (I'm thinking drink driving and stuff that will really load the premium), and then if you have a bang and are caught in reality nothing will happen? Obviously you will need to check if they would quote or not beforehand, but with the internet that's easy.
One question for Loon (who I'm assuming works in a call centre of something for an insurance company) - when this comes in and they look online are you only going to ask about the last 4 years? Points come off after 4 years so after that you will not be able to see them online anyway.

Quite possibly on the first paragraph, although it is going to really hurt you forever on your insurance premiums and an insurer is highly likely to pursue for the TP outlay in those circumstances just to show that being a smart ares can end up ruining your life. Length of declaration is being reviewed. The issue remains as we strip out more and more underwriting factors then everybody becomes. Or equal and those paying less have to pay more to subsidise those paying less who should be paying more. Wow that's a confusing sentence.

Thanks - after other posters comment I looked at your previous posting, sorry if I offended by saying you were a call centre worker. It wasn't my intention. Length of declaration is being reviewed. Can see what you are saying on both points. Annoyingly I've just got to the state where my insurance is cheap/reasonable for nearly anything. Oh well I'm going to assume in 10 years we will all have black boxes anyway, so I'll enjoy it whilst I can.
All the linking of databases and sharing info is a direct result of people not being honest and fully disclosing their circumstances. Everytime an incident like the one described by the Op happens the insurers push for more independent sources of information so they have a true understanding of the risk they are underwriting.
As for the Op, you are pretty much dammed whichever way the result goes. Pass it off the a professional as advised and you might just escape with a bit of your reputation in not too many tatters.
By the way I don't have any sympathy because I disclose it all and pay the price and so should everyone else, if you can't afford it get off the road.

No offence meant or taken. I do a job that's all. Can see what you are saying on both points. Annoyingly I've just got to the state where my insurance is cheap/reasonable for nearly anything. Oh well I'm going to assume in 10 years we will all have black boxes anyway, so I'll enjoy it whilst I can.
