Police van reverses into car shocker

Why bother even sending a 'roads policing' officer down to the scene? Caught on camera, the driver has admitted mistake - it's a damage only collision. What a waste of time. Everyone makes mistakes and police drivers are probably the safest fleet in the country per the miles that they do, especially given the demands on them.
I imagine its force policy. In my force, if you have a POLAC, no matter how slight, and I mean..you open your door into someone else's, you have to call a supervisor of at least one rank above the person involved. They attend....breathalyse you, and fill in relevant paperwork. In fairness, it ensures the integrity of the forces, and shows that the Police are held to account as much as you or I.

What an absolutely stupid policy. Surely it would be better for the advanced folk to keep their qualification until such time that a refresher/ requal is required.
The lunatics have finally taken over the asylum.
Why spend money keeping them in ticket when they're working on neighbourhood teams who are not allowed to respond to live jobs? The lunatics have finally taken over the asylum.
Same with public order, method of entry and taser too. Anything that you don't need to do your current role won't be kept up.
Brilliant eh? Still nice to see the self proclaimed elite ones shoved down down a peg or two.

it's a collission involving an emergency vehicle aka a 'polacc' or 'polcol'because PSD are office dwellers and don;t work 24/7 , most PSD officers aren't experts at conducting the inital examination of a RTC scene.
The copper made a mistake like we all do sometimes. Driving big van, didn't see car behind. Unfortunate but these things happen. I'm sure the Police will square up with the car's owner for the damage and the officer will be getting some ribbing at work but thats all that should happen.

Who are these 'self-proclaimed' elite. Do you mean Officers busting a gut like everyone else, but who just happen to drive a knackered BMW??My Force has also took the tickets off all the Divisional advance drivers. The response cars however, were kept and are used by Supervisors to travel from A to B. That's really useful when you've got a pursuit and the advance drivers that were are in Pandas and the untrained drivers are in the response cars. Ridiculous policy dreamt up by people totally removed from the frontline

Nope, the lazy ex traffic sweats who treated anyone less than advanced like st for years who are now mincing about on a neighbourhood team doing nothing and saying 'not in my remit'. And when I say treated like st I mean it, wouldn't hold a door open for you or even speak to you...so quite honestly fk em! My Force has also took the tickets off all the Divisional advance drivers. I would say that's down to an individual being rude. Nothing to do with being an advanced driver.
Absolutely but why should they be kept in ticket if the skills aren't being used? Neighbourhood teams where I am are not permitted to go to response jobs or assist anyone in any way. They are there for ward forums and ASB, no required driving grade other than basic. In fact the new neighbourhood cars don't even have sirens. They don't even respond to assistance shouts so there is really no point maintaining grades. They are happy to sit back and listen to the world ending on the radio and offer no support what so ever.Spend cash keeping them in ticket for something they will never use? I'd rather see it spent on uniform and equipment to help everybody out rather than keeping them in ticket. I'm not having a go at the advance drivers that are in relevant roles only the wallers who think that because they once had a grade 10 years ago means they're always entitled to keep it and that they are automatically better than everyone else when in reality they're a bunch of lazy strokers.

The examples I've given are all on 24/7 response. A large number of advanced drivers have had tickets removed. They already worked on the shifts, but their grades were removed to 'save money'. However, the cars they drove are still being used, but by non-graded supervisors. So already scant resources for stinger, T-PAC and other resolutions are now even less. No money is being saved, but some office dweller has decided it's 'progress'. Barking mad.

maintaining advanced driver status can end up as a self licking lollipop - dropping people back to basic driver may well be counter -productive.
as for the cars being used by supervisors
1. that'll only be until they time / mileage out
2. i suspect the maintainance/ repair and fuel bills have dropped due to reduced mileage and reduced high speed response driving.

It's all really helpful when I'm calling for units to assist in pursuit resolution. But then again, the cuts aren't affecting the frontline apparently.
like the NHS the police suffers from the cadre of political comissars and none -job lay general managers ... the turkeys who won;t vote for christmas ... and like the NHS the police suffers from senior practitioners are who not fit for purpose due to them not having the education that a senior practitioner needs allowing the none-job holders to baffle them with BS and also allowing them none -jpb holders to present a better case to the specialist lay person managers ( the accountants, engineers etc etc )Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
