NIP- How long does it normally take to receive one?
Discussion
Depends on how it was taken, I'd presume that both Gatso and mobile sites are processed Monday to Friday so for an offence on a Friday probably collected/reviewed Monday, checked and at the very earliest sent out Monday. Assuming 1st class post then with you Tuesday. Wednesday to Thursday if 2nd class.
That's a best case though. I'd imagine most would try and send it within a week so assuming you are actually caught I'd expect something in the post Tuesday/Wednesday next week.
All a guess though as it totally depends on where and what workload they're under.

Agreed *but* many *are* sent second class. I'd suggest that they know that they're incorrectly served but still take the chance as most people would pay up anyway.NO NO NO

Also FYI the date of the offence is day 0 so if you haven't had it on the 1st you're got away with it.
Although you may struggle if it turns up on the 2nd. Legally you're in the clear but it's so close that without witnesses you may not be able to prove it turned up late. Unless of course the date of posting is the 1st.

I'd be very surprised if that was the case - can you provide a source ?Fastdruid said:
Anecdotal on numbers from posts at pepipoo. I'm sure most are "legal" but also willing to bet that some scamera partnerships take the risk and the ones that hit pepipoo are the tip of the iceberg.
I wouldn't make that bet. Whilst I've not been on Pepipoo for a while, the overwhelming majority (if not all) of [initial] NIPs which posters claimed to have been sent 2nd class turned out to be complete misinformation by that poster, or the notice had been sent 1st class franked ie a lower rate than a 1st class stamp which the poster assumed must be 2nd class..

Just a thought - could it have been a van on an ANPR operation, not speed related?
Good point but I didnt see any related car/Police bikes furthet on like you normally would? It's still a possibility I think.

Been there done that, 14 days of stress but thankfully not got a NIP (140+!)
How did you manage that?I'm not sure if I slowed in time or I was saved by being on on a bike and the bridge was too wide to have got to the other side in time to read my numberplate. Either way I was a lucky boy (almost as lucky as the time I was stopped by undercover armed police after leaving them for dead up to >120mph).

It can't just be an ANPR- earlier that day my boss told me it was on the otherside pointing towards the motorway and sliproads. Would have proven dangerous to station any officers/DVLA after it.
Sometimes they seem to go for fishing expeditions, though it may well have been netting speeders. There's still the question that, if it was the Talivan, why no NIP?
