Hi all.

Hope this is the right place.

Purchased a second hand bike from a dealer a couple of weeks ago and have yet to fall in love with it as i am having troubles with the f***ing thing.

When i picked it up the dealer said you may notice it coughing and spluttering a bit but don't worry as it had been sat for a while, we have cleaned out the tank and you just need to run a few tanks of fresh fuel through to clear it out.

So i did that but the problem was still there.

So ran some injection clearer through the next few tanks to no avail.

I then proceeded to strip the bike down to have a look only to find that the inside of the fuel tank was rusty as hell.

Poured what fuel was in there out into a container and it was brown, you could see the fragments of rust in the bottom.

This is obviously what has been causing the coughing etc.

The problem is im going to have to get the tank re-sealed then replace the fuel pump as that was rusty, clean the injectors and balance the throttle bodies.

Where do i stand with the dealer as i am going to contact him to see what he makes of it.

Annoyed is not the word

Thanks guys.

Any warranty?

Sale of good act, clearly not fit for purpose I don't know the in's and out of that but on the face of it I would say you're covered depending upon the timescale from purchasing to identifying the issues and informing the dealer.

Are we talking about a 2013 S1000RR here, or a 25 year old £500 snotter?

I guess it's not that old then, and therefore it's reasonable to expect the tank not to be rusty. What has the dealer said?

They said they knew it was an issue so cleaned it out, at the end of the day its still going to come back.

He said he will contact me tomorrow as they are closing now.

All this via email so documented
