However I'm willing to bet like all the other "yes it's true" stories about the motorway speed cams no physical proof of any of these NIPs will be forthcoming....
How much are you willing to bet?

I'm not a fan of the scaremongers either but I did see this.

Yes. I have a NIP in front of me 91/70. M5 J16-17 southbound. According to the internet it's a managed motorway system.

I suppose the BBC and the police are wrong but hey-ho:

Hundreds caught as M4 and M5 speed cameras around Bristol activated

Police say hundreds of motorists recorded speeding on two motorways near Bristol have "no excuse".

Some 1,500 drivers were caught in the first two weeks as new variable speed cameras on the M4 and M5 were activated. One was recorded at 124mph.

Ch Supt Ian Smith said the "vast majority" of the offences occurred when the speed limit was reduced for "good reasons".

He said this could be due to traffic building up or debris in the road.

"If people are deliberately ignoring those limits which have been set because of increased danger... [then] there's really no excuse for that whatsoever," Mr Smith said.

The managed motorway project was signed off in January, but the cameras only became active recently.

Figures obtained by the BBC show between 27 June and 11 July 1,502 vehicles were recorded speeding.

They also reveal 70 drivers were travelling above the normal 70mph limit when the speed signs were off including three over 100mph.

Speed awareness courses have been offered to 1,318 motorists in lieu of a £100 fixed penalty notice and three points.

One hundred and sixty seven drivers have been sent fixed penalty notices and 17 have been summonsed because of the severity of the alleged offence.

Eh? Are you confusing me with someone else or you this rude to everyone? 2 posts on the subject ever and it's "you yet again"?

There are several local and national news stories about them being active. You want to play with your license, that's up to you.

They're not active at all. If you believe that they are then fine, stay in lane 1 out of my way and crack on.

Police and press are hardly going to say "nope, they don't do st above 70mph so you're all free to crack on with your toe down" are they? The police and the press never lie or be economical with the truth do they! rolleyes

Show me a genuine NIP from a managed motorway gatso when no speed limit is being displayed (ie. NSL) and I'll happily hold my hand up and admit I'm wrong but as with all these threads it's the same suspects coming out with the same "I know someone who got done" replies with no actual proof.

ETA: the article is bullst anyway. The line you've highlighted proves that. Only 70 drivers were caught doing over 70mph over a 2 week period and only 3 of those over a ton? Yeah whatever. It's a load of cock and the same gullible fools have fallen for it yet again.

I like your style AllThatJaz. I had to chuckle.

The only thing I can add to this post is that the M25 cameras on the south and north eastern side do not seem to create any NIP paperwork when there isn't a restricted speed limit shown. Outside of that ie when the speed limit is below 70 I am sure they probably do send out letters.

As an aside with all this technology it is about time they sorted out those stupid warning signs that often show lanes closures or queues when the road is clear. Rant over.

OK, this will be my last word on this matter.
Here are some cases on Pepipoo where it seems those starting the subjects have been in receipt of police notices for exceeding the

http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=7866... M6T/M42 …i have recently received a NIP for doing 105mph on a 70mph. Site 1165B, just before the Toll merges with the M42. I remember the camera flashing and being surprised because there was no VSL displayed at the time…

http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=9197... M5 j16 – j17
…Evening, dry & quiet with few other vehicles around (I understand this is not legally relevant). Camera flashed as I was overtaking another vehicle (both vehicles on yard markings). Speed just over 90mph. I wrongly believed these cameras only enforced limits displayed on the signs.

COFP offered, SAC not (though they could shove it somewhere even if it was).

Envelope franked, unsure of postage class. Not signed for.

For anyone that has found this through search engines (as I couldn't find this out online): The Bristol managed motorway cameras DO enforce the national speed limit even when nothing is displayed!...
I can’t see what motivation these two people would have to post up and ask for help on these matters when the incidents were fictional…perhaps you think it is the police of HA employing stooges to post up to give the impression that they work in this way. That’s up to you but remember, you are working from a position of ignorance.

Now answer the bet.

So what position are you working from? If you know so much why don't you post up what the camera trigger speed is in managed motorway sections, surely you know? Considering you can only link the two cases & the lowest speed was 90 something I think it a bit of stretch to say categorically they are enforcing the NSL which would have a trigger speed of at least 79. Where's the multiple evidence of convictions for people who have been traveling at between 78 & 90 something?

I had a look at the Gatsos near the Hartshead Services on the M62 when I went across the bridge today. They were flashing randomly, not every vehicle or the fastest vehicles, completely randomly. At one point an Eddie Stobart lorry in the inside lane got flashed by the Gatso over it but none of the other Gatsos flashed the faster vehicles overtaking it.

Can people definitely say they've been through that section and other smart motorways over the limit and not got booked?

On another note, there's a completely pointless 50mph limit now where the M62 meets the M60 and they're making it a smart motorway. No lanes closed, no work happening on the carriageway. There was just a digger parked in a field this afternoon and the start of a gantry being built. The amount of land to the side of the motorway being taken up by the gantry would have allowed for the motorway to have been widened by another two or three lanes plus hard shoulder as well.

I regularly cruise on the M25 past Heathrow, M1 past Luton and M6 toll at an indicated 85-87 and never had a ticket or flash when no restriction is in place. Often see cars going faster than this that don't get flashed.

Yes they do work 24 hours a day! I always thought the cameras were only live when the sign was illumiated but have very recently been prosecuted for driving at 70+mph on the M4 J20 - 19 at 23.45pm with little traffic on the road. Thank you to the wonderful Avon and Somerset Police for your help curbing my errant driving.... rolleyes

Well-I-never-did!

If you preferred to take the advice of the ignorant group here then you reaped the benefit of a sycophantic forum of idiots who prefer legend to fact.

I do enjoy the laugh every time I see this repeated.
