Every cat I have ever had had already had it's testes removed before I got them. I got this one as a kitten and decided to leave him as nature intended for at least a year. He was very sweet natured. Trouble was when we had the first warm weekend in March he departed, no doubt after smelling a female queen in heat. I imagine he intends to come back but keeps smelling another queen etc etc.

Off topic but I've never understood that, if you let your dog wander around neighbours property doing what he likes all hell would break loose but when a cat does it you have to accept it.

Our neighbour’s cat has a habit of walking up and down / sitting on our car with grit in his paws and has caused a few marks. Tempted to put our Alsatian on their car roof, see how they like it.
My neighbours cats used to do that to mine and go in my garage if it was open.

I solved it by simply soaking the feckers with the hose pipe everytime it came on my drive / garden.

My cousin's cat came back with the snip (or it might have been the sterilisation- I forget the sex). Without a bit of digging about it came apparent that the cat had two homes, two breakfasts and dinners, and two owners.....

No offence was taken, other than a rather pissed off cat.

My intact Tom is micro chipped and listed as intact on the data base. I doubt a vet would snip him without calling me first.

My Border Collie was found sitting on the roof of my Dad's year old black BMW after watching our cats sunbathing up there (was the early '90's mind). Made a heck of a mess of the paintwork .

Actually, that reminds me, my Dad cured our cats of sitting on the car by keeping a bucket of water by the door, and leaping out and throwing it over the mogs every time he saw them on the car. They soon found dryer places to snooze.

if I could get away with it, I'd happily shoot my neighbours cat- why ? its damn paws have scratched the paint off my gate as it likes to use it as a cut through and secondly I have a nice allotment at the end of my land: I love the fact when I'm planting my seedlings etc out, after hours of weeding it and getting it "just so" there is filthy cat poo in there.

cats (and wait for it) and dogs as far as I am concerned are meanlingless vermin. I see no place for them cats and as for dogs - unless they are assisting the blind, rescusing people in the snow, sniffing out drugs, biting criminals or assisting to round sheep up on a mountain side.

in answer to your problem, I'd have all three cats put down and yr the worst for having females ones that are being bred, bringing more meaningless things into the world.

If some feckless lonely female wants a cat, why can't she go to the pound and get one for free ?

So essentially you think you've lost him because you didn't get him done? Regretting that now? frown

Leaving aside the fact yours has gone missing, it's pretty irresponsible not to have your pet cats "done" as all it does is introduce potentially more unwanted cats into the world, never mind the fact that tomcats, when not done, tend to be pretty bloody territorial and therefore will attack any other cats that dare to come too close, as is the case in our road where all of ours are done, but one neighbour hasn't done theirs and it keeps attacking ours resulting in more than a couple of trips to the vets for fight wounds. rolleyes

If he's getting in over the top of the walls would spike strips not deter him??
Electric fence strung along the top of the wall. Cats are fast learners normally - I don't know if it would deter a Tom after pussy pussy, but it keeps the buggers out of my garden.

You think that's unfair, I tried to walk my Siberian tiger down to the local park and let it loose while the kiddies were about, and someone called the police! Then when the police came round, they went bananas and got the RSPCA involved just because I keep my dog in a fish tank and let the goldfish out at night for a wee!

You’re right of course but my point is that cats are equally capable of causing damage though not to people like a dog could.
you live in a town don`t you?
I`ve had a few encounters with cats, two vicious.
One resulted in eight stitches in the right palm.
the other 12 in my upper right calf, that was through a pair of overalls and a pair of jeans!

Also our own cat,a freakishly large ginger tom was seen,in the words of the witness"doing over a fox".
When I saw the mess I couldn`t believe the cat had done it,but a small puncture wound in the rear lower ankle of the cat(which bothered it not a jot)and bloody fox fur all over it`s face and paws told me otherwise.
A lot of cats are mental,it`s their nature but their brains are more far complex than dogs, with a massive sense of self importance, dogs are followers.
Our cat is quite a prolific hunter,I don`t like it but accept that it`s not the cats fault.
You can not breed out millions of years of evolution with a few hundred years of domestication.
Cats are predators and almost perfect predators at that, some are just lazy feckers granted but what do people really expect?

Some interesting replies.

Firstly, I won't be doing this as I said, the thought crossed my mind and I was interested to know the legalities...if I can take a stray/feral on, surely I can have it neutered? I did think if it had been chipped then it would be a good way to track the owner.

Secondly, to anyone who was an entire male cat, don't they spray in your house?

I might end up having them done if they can't have their outside freedom anymore but that means we won't be able to have our own cats to breed anymore and will have to buy them instead and get no satisfaction from producing our own. This is hardly fair on us just because someone who probably can't be bothered or is ignorant of the unwanted litters their cat will produce.

And yes, they are "our girls" as opposed to "our boys". I think calling them queens might have come a cross a little pretentious in a car forum.

That sounds like the kind of thing our old boy would have got up to, before (as it turned out) the cancer slowed him down. Wasn't much for hunting, lacked the equipment for shagging, but always up for a ruck. Still miss the fat ginger bd.

my FIL has a cat , a large black tom , was entire but did start to spray the furniture and it fking stank

he couldn't smell it but boy it absolutely reeked and he didn't believe us it was pissing everywhere until he caught it in the act - off with its nuts and it stopped.

it still keeps bringing the odd alive pigeon in through the catflap in the middle of the night , usually resulting in a carpet cleaner being called out and at least one room being redecorated. its amazing how much blood and guts can come out of a pigeon .

cats fking horrible creatures , gimme a dog anyday

From a legal point of view a cat is a "free spirit" so owners cannot be held responsible for them. With regards toilet behavior, the majority of cats will bury what they leave behind, dogs certainly don't.
as proven time and time again this is absolute bks spouted on every single thread regarding cats fouling other peoples gardens...usually posted by cat owners and completely the opposite of the experiences of people who have others cats stting in their gardens on a regular basis (the next comment is usually that its more likely to be foxes..even if you have witnessed it being done by cats..)
