OP the reason combines have the big wheels at the front is so they can drive over cars that are obstructing the highway, if you are thinking of claiming off their insurance you may wish to google contributory negligence first.
Just for clarity, Road for driving on, your land for parking on.

So to sum up, all the "berty big bk" farmers are saying it's ok to drive over peoples gardens and damage their cars if said farmer perceives there is not enough space being left for their incompetent tractor/combine drivers? Any other branch of road users exempt from road traffic law in your views?

I gather that everybody parked in a certain village is exempt from having to park so they don't cause an obstruction...

The op has numerous times told us that the villagers have all agreed to and do park on the same side to minimise obstruction but seems selective reading is at work?

I agree, a wealthy farmer is "judged" by the size of the subsidy he receives from the tax payer.
In general farmers would rather not have subsidises. Very easy to make a sweeping generalisation without understanding the reasons behind subsides and how they effect world prices. I would love for you to work for one month as a farmer, see how much tax they do pay, see how long they work then to answer the question "do they deserve the subsidy based on level of investment and working hours", I think you'd have a different point of view.
Don't worry, at some point some clever politician will remove all the subsidies. All the uneconomic farms will merge with similar sized ones to make seriously big mega-uneconomic ones. Then the OP will be in for a shock, as all the hedgerows get torn up to make 500 acre fields. Then he'll find out what big combines really look like..... Oh and dust storms, loss of wildlife etc etc.

No-one subsidises my business, why should I subsidise anyone else's business? Plenty of people out there working long hours and investing their own money without subsidies, why should farmers be any different?

How much do you want to pay for a loaf of bread or a bag of spuds?

Free market price will be fine, thanks. And they'll taste all the better with a lower tax bill.

When we get out of the EU, we can lower all our import tariffs and enjoy low price food.

I don't think combine have got a huge lot wider (unless you mean the header, which is usually towed behind the tractors). We've got machines ranging from more than 20 years old to brand new - I'll have a measure when I'm in the yard this afternoon.

Regarding towing cars, over here it's only the police who are allowed to remove cars (using private contractors), so we have to get them involved. They don't remove the cars, usually they just move them out of the way. It doesn't happen very often - most people move once the police appear on the scene (although it's disappointing that they often do wait until the police arrive).

I've been doing this for more than 25 years, and people seem to be getting a lot less tolerant and more difficult. At the end of the day we're only doing a job. If someone blocked the way to your work, I guess you might be a bit unhappy too.
I wonder if this is proportional to the queues behind said agricultural vehicles that don't ever stop to let other traffic past? Feeling grumpy today having spent too many hours on the A17.

Like it or not if there are no parking restrictions they can park wherever they like, it does not give any particular users "rights" to damage property of any kind as alluded to by a number of people on here, what is "farmer Giles" doing to compromise with the locals? appears we have found a more selfish/militant group of users than cyclists or horse riders? wink

Did you forget a small detail there?
The bit about causing an obstruction to other traffic...?

If buses & the occasional arctic delivering to the farms (including delivering a tractor) can fit then why can't the same tractor once it's on it's own wheels? I fail to see the case for obstruction here.

Yes, from what you later added - it does appear that the problem is with one particular tractor driver being a waste of oxygen, and nothing at all to do with the widths of equipment as you originally ranted about. Didn't we agree that several pages ago?

I don't know? did we? I've lost track now.
