Not wishing to hijack someone else's thread........ Sold car and sent V5 to DVLA on 18th using 2nd class signed for. Looking on Royal Mail site, no delivery confirmation. Hmm, so what happens now? I have a photocopy of V5, proof of post by signed for service. I guess it's a case of follow up with Royal Mail in 15 days and to try to get my £1 back laugh I suspect they all go in a sack for DVLA so getting the signed for service doesn't help? Although last time I used it they did sign for the item. In the event of a problem have I given DVLA EXTRA ammunition, in as much as they can claim non-receipt of the item? Would I have a possible larger claim against Royal Mail if DVLA prosecute me? Short of hand-delivering to DVLA and demanding they sign for the document this system is open to all sorts of problems.

On the day that the Passport Agency is abolished, brought back under Home Office control and the Passport Agency boss is told he is being fired, is the next candidate DVLA?

If so what will be the result? Better / worse / no matter the service will still be abysmal.

Nothing for at least 4 weeks (which is the period they mention in respect of when you should receive an acknowledgement of no longer being the RK). Unfortunately I doubt very much that you have any claim against RM.

According to one District Judge, who has apparently lost all his marbles, that's exactly what you should do.
Read this - http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthr...

However there have been other previous cases which were decided in favour of the motorist.

DVLA v Collins, Clerkenwell Magistrates Court, October 2009
DVLA v O’Sullivan, Staines County Court October 2009
DVLA v Peck, Horsham County Court April 2010

This one is interesting too - http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthr...

There is no consistency and it's basically a lottery.

It really is time that:
a) The Secretary of State sorts out this unaccountable Agency which acts on his behalf
b) There is independent oversight, preferably a regulator with real teeth and powers to bring it to heel

In the meantime what is needed is a test case to be remitted to the CoA. The DVLA will do anything to prevent this in case they lose and their scamming of those who have fulfilled their obligations has to stop.

P/X'd daughter's car at the beginning of Sept and sent the change notification and old tax disc back together - it says you can do that, although they show different postcodes for the two actions.

Got the tax refund cheque a couple of weeks ago, but never got the confirmation of disposal so as 4 weeks has elapsed I used their online form to remind them.

They replied this morning and the email is worded as if this is the first they've heard of it and says they'll send me a confirmation. Cheeky buggers.
