He obviously doesn't know enough.
Here's a thing. MOT doesn't check the amount or quality of oil in your car. You do that. (You do, don't you? Or do you pay someone to do that for you as well?) Likewise, they don't (shock, horror) test the age of your brake pads/shoes. They test braking force, and the amount of meat left, but, y'know, those old pads and shoes could delaminate suddenly and someone might die. And how old's your brake fluid?
Sometimes you just have to take some personal responsibility for stuff. And that includes, when presented with an age-related blow-out, deciding to limp on with only 5/6 equally aged tyres and putting other road users at risk, in my opinion.

Fine if you want to personally attack me for not taking responsibility but what about theHere's a thing. MOT doesn't check the amount or quality of oil in your car. You do that. (You do, don't you? Not aimed at me, but yes, she should perform all the checks recommended as a competent driver; tyre pressures, condition of car, levels, etc, or have someone perform it for her.little old lady down the street who does 2,000 miles a year should she know every thing about the tyres on her car.
Driving is not a right, it's a privilege with responsibilities. If you are not able to discharge those responsibilities or find someone to help you, you should not drive.

Found tons of things bodged on the car, garage owner wasn't that forthcoming but played the 'horrified' card well...but stopped short of confirming the poor work was done there.
Have repaired it all now, just annoying that more money and t I'm me is wasted sorting out the laughably bad workmanship of another...
