Front numberplates?
Discussion
Just a question for those that may know, is it illegal to have no front numberplates?
I've noticed more and more exotica without them in my part of the world, North London. Invariably hi end new Italian. To be honest I was looking at one this morning on the way to work and couldn't even work out where you could put one beyond a sticky thing on the bonnet.
Before I get flamed in true PH style, I haven't got car envy, axe to grind etc etc, just got me thinking

Not sure where Speed Badger got the information above from but is has nothing to do with the UK.
The requirements for vehicles to be fitted with number plates are contained within The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001. Regulation 6 requires vehicles (other than motorbikes and trikes), first registered after the relevant date, to be fitted with front number plates.

And it seems they do actually issue tickets for it from time to time, too....

£60 fine but no points if you get stopped by the BiB.
It gone up to £100. Cat
The bib / DVLA don't like continuous reg plate infringements. If the DVLA keep getting information about the same infringement on a particular vehicle, apparently they are not shy about removing the age-related plate from a vehicle, without so much as a 'by your leave,' and issuing a 'Q' plate instead.
Which would obviously cause problems come insurance and re-sale time.

Thank heavens for the same legislation for motorbikes as well.
Oh, hang on.....
Yea, and it's a PITA when it's a bike used. But points for sarcasm.Oh, hang on.....
It is a pain in the arse trying to fit something to the front of a bike, even L plates.

Utter bks!
Not really. DVLA do indeed look to remove plates if there is continuous violation - mis-spaced plates, mis-representation etc. So not displaying a front plate could see your £10k "personal reg" removed. Not saying it would neccessarily end up with a "Q" replacement, but if the plate is something special I know I wouldn't be doing anything that might see it get taken away.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
