I was traveling up the M40 this morning and was pulled over for speeding.
Fair cop, I was speeding and told him how fast I was going (no need to, of course he knew and said it was on video should I wish to view it).

It was an unmarked Volvo and after checking my license and obviously passing the attitude test (or whatever you call it) he told me that he was issuing me a verbal warning and that traffic plod would have issued me a summons, but as he was armed response (in casual clothes and looked very mean lol), he let me go.

So I do consider myself very lucky considering the speed.

I assume he could have quite easily reported me if he saw fit?

Jimp, maybe?

(For those who aren't fans of 2000 AD, a Jimp is someone impersonating a MegaCity One Judge (cop).)

Nar, if he was any good he'd have shot the tyres out (see countless police shooting thread "why didn't they shoot the gun from his hand" cobblers).

Didnt actually see any guns, but he had the flashing lights and police sign that lit up.

Was doing 105.9, so I am humble this afternoon!

Was it an old Volvo?

Brother had similar a while back.

Old stty Volvo egging him on and accelerating as he went to over take them (dual carriageway), then both kept going at speed. Get to a set of traffic lights and they pull in really fast and almost across the front of his car, one of the guys does his window down, so my brother does the same and he says my brother's name and asks if that's who he is. Then they asked him to pull over further down the road.

He got out and was speaking to them, no uniform or obvious signs they are police. One starts rolling a cig and then they have a little conversation with them pointing out what a tt he is, and then tell him to stop driving like an idiot and go on his way.

No idea what they were supposed to be working. ~10 year old Volvo, dressed scruffy, and until they said his name, it looked more like it was going to be a road rage incident.

I could only think they couldn't be bothered with the paperwork, or didn't have enough evidence? Although I did think I read on here that 2 officer' statements are enough to get a conviction, or 1 if it's a traffic cop? I assume they had no camera.

He's incredibly lucky, as it would have definitely been a court appearance.

My Bullst Detector is going ping ping ping. I suggest that either this incident never happened, or that it did but the OP has been spoofed by a fake cozzer. OP, how do you know that this dude was an armed police officer? He told you? Armed police officer on his own and not in uniform? A Protection Officer (one of the guys who protects pols, Royals, Diplomats and so on) might be on his own and in civvies (usually a suit), but some random dude dressed up as Dave Starsky, eh? I am not saying it couldn't happen, but the story seems a tad unconvincing.

I had a similar situation, got stopped doing 95ish on the A30 by an armed copper and got a bit of a telling off. He agreed that it was an quiet stretch of road and I wasn't doing anything stupid so he let me go. I got the feeling he was just bored on a Sunday afternoon, if anything. Might have been different if it was a traffic cop.

ETA there were 2 in uniform in an unmarked BMW, and the one who spoke to me had a Glock on his hip.

Most ARVs are the only 'Traffic cops' left. There isn't a difference.

I saw an unmarked Volvo with flashing blue lights on the M40 this morning, about 10.30 northbound just past junction 10 as I recall.

lol, Why would I lie?

I am 42 years old, not 12.

A newish saloon Volvo, had strobes behind the front grill and at the back, and inside the back window was a POLICE sign in red (the ones that light up)

My first post explained pretty much what happened,-he asked if I would like to see the video (I declined), he asked if I had my license (I did) which he and his colleague looked at (in their car) and when he returned he gave me a talking to as described. He was pleasant and professional.

Why would a fake cop pull anyone over?

Because that's what people like to suggest on here.

Ah, there were two officers. OK, that makes a difference and now I believe you; apols. I took from your first post that there was just one officer. Armed response officers usually work in teams, for obvious reasons.

..anyway - this should be the norm rather than the exception. They SHOULD be nice and decent. You shouldn't expect any less- even if the dreaded 'attitude test' came into play. The fact they didnt knock you off is a bonus.

I like the policeman who let me off for something I'd end up in court for with points and a big fine shocker wink
