Just been told by the firm the bus was spotted at 35 in a 30. Just annoyed at myself for not checking the speedo, but more important i feel that if it had been a plod i would have been given a bking and told to watch it, which would have more of an impact than sitting down and hopefully not getting a BRAKE nutcase going on at me for three hours

So if anyone goes through Reading its the bd unit that is situated Westbound on the A4 just before Sidmouth Street.

They must be really hard up for cash!!

There's a paradox in your argument. If everybody caught at 35mph in a 30mph limit were given a stern talking to instead of a sanction, it would logically mean you could always do 35mph and know there would be no sanction. This would have the opposite impact to that which your post infers.

The reality is, you think you should be given no more than a stern talking to and haven't thought about everybody else.

I now expect the usual "limits on a stick, no regard to safety, money making racket blah blah blah" argument in diversion.

Do you honestly think that you are a fit and proper person to be preaching to others about speed limits and safe driving?

Or is this more of your born-again poacher-turned-gamekeeper claptrap? Glory halleluiah and all that.

Is it better to learn from people who've made mistakes or those who don't believe they make them?

Frankly if attacking me for an accident I had 8 years ago is the most useful thing you have to say, we now know you haven't much of use to say.

But you haven't explained about the preaching and what gives you the right to do so?

redcard

I'd say 10p is in a good position to give advice on matters speed related. Not many people have had his experience.

Or are you trolling ?

What? Don't do as I do, do as I say? As I've said, what gives him the right?

Predator by name predator by action, i bet your a bit of a pussy (cat) really.

You keep me entertained though!

People passing on their experiences for the benefit of others is called "teaching" maybe you could learn a lesson from others and stop being such a prick whenever somebody, but especially 10p writes anything.

Maybe Predators attack was a bit harsh and keyboard warriorish, but I have got to say that more and more recently 10ps is coming across a bit like an ex smoker, it is getting a bit evangelical.

There is every likelihood that if the OP had been stopped by a police officer in the pre-Brustrom era then he might not have been prosecuted.

Police officers, at least in my force, were required to have three things before a prosecution: an offence, and offender and a reason.

If there were circumstances of the offence which made the driving safe then the officer might well have had a brief word, or not even stopped him.

Discretion was allowed with speeding and other offences to an extent that is not current.

There are lengths of road around my way which used to be a 50mph limit and are now 30mph. These have no houses, not footways and there are no particular reasons for pedestrians to cross. I think that if a car was going along there with no traffic, no pedestrians and around <10mph over the limit, most officers would allow the driver to proceed unreported. Unless there were other circumstances which rendered a prosecution reasonable.

If that's the case I apologise. The point I try to make isn't "don't speed". If that's the message you've received, it's either my message being made badly or being read wrongly (or a combination of the two).

My message is always drive to the conditions (the speed limits can be a guide here, but guarantee nothing in terms of safety or lack of it). Secondly, speed where appropriate, but don't moan like a little girl if an when you get caught and dealt with. Accept you broke the rules, take the punishment like a man and move on.

For what it's worth, my opinion as above has never been any different, accident or no accident.

And yes, I speed (where and when appropriate).

"meh, it happens..."

No points, £85-105 for a course, free coffee.

Everyone goes over the limit occasionally, so it's bound to happen at some stage.

Dude, well taken.

It wasn't meant as an attack, just an observation. Thanks for taking it onboard as intended.

The same right as any other poster to give his opinion on any post here.

His right to air an opinion is the same as your right to question it.

My point was, i was watching plod do a speed laser trap and asked them what speed do they consider the driver should be done, ( this was in Hounslow) his answer was 'Anything over 37 is a tug, below that and over 33 we 'have a chat',The Magistrates like to have a good excess to play with.'
Nowadays, the ferking machines are set to do 10% +2 ( plus 0.000001, )just IMHO to make money and not be in a place that actually needs the speed regulated due to being an accident black spot where deaths have been caused by inappropriate use of speed ( note the phrase)
Still i put my hand up and look forward ( as much as i am looking forward to a internal examination of my bladder) with relish.

Maybe approach it with an open mind? A lot of sensible people I listen to having been on one say they're surprised how non preachy they are. Better than 3 bad notches on your driving bed post, in any case.

Its a 16 seater and limited to 62mph, which really gets the goat of those drivers that cant read the sign on the backwhen i am passing a slower vehicle ( who invariably decides to speed up when i start to pass them)
