I used to work with a guy whose brother was GMP traffic cop and they used to goad people on the M62 into going faster and then pull them over.
I don't know if it's still the case, but he told me Lancashire Police won't stop anyone on the motorway at night as it's considered too dangerous.
A man's, brother's, uncles, nephew. Always love those kind of stories. Never a truer word spoken. Particularly like the 'won't stop anyone on the m/way at night' bit. Proves his story is totally accurate. (I must have been doing it wrong all these years)I don't know if it's still the case, but he told me Lancashire Police won't stop anyone on the motorway at night as it's considered too dangerous.

There's absolutely no need to 'goad' anybody into speeding. Plenty of people manage to do three figures all by themselves. Usually oblivious to the marked 5 series travelling behind them for the last couple of miles.
Starter for ten, peeps. What should the usual motorway speed limit be? 100? More? Less? What about lorries?
I suggest that we work on the assumption that for most people driving is a rather meh activity, not something to be concentrated on or enjoyed, and that most people have had no driver training since passing their test in some stbox Nissan ages ago.
Well, thought it was happening to me one day when I was out in the toy, a police Volvo (unmarked) a few inches off my bumper. They had plenty of room to pass and plenty of clear road and arrived at warp 9. Or do they drive that close on purpose?
Probably training. (traffic school or division where I live)

The claim posted on here in the past is that being an inch or two off your bumper is done merely to get a good view of the driver via your mirrors.Probably training. (traffic school or division where I live)

Get yourself a romanian driving license ! After you get points or a ban just get another one with a different date of birth, thats what they all do. I even know of one instance where a twenty three year old got another one showing his age as thirty years old just so he could get cheaper insurance ! You dont even need to take a test that is how corrupt the government is over there.
I have complained to the police and given names and addresses of invidiuals who have abused the rules only to be told that they are powerless to act as they have no way of checking foreign licenses. They said that sometime in the future it is hoped that all countries can share drivers databases. Well that gives me a lot of confidence !
On a more serious note i would contact Emma Patterson. She lectures judges on motoring law so she really knows her stuff. Also she will give you free advice. You will only pay if you use her services. Check her sucess rate for speeding offenses ! Emma has restored my faith in the legal system.

Well, I've learned from this thread that my assumption that 100+ was a 12 month ban is totally wrong.
Did it ever used to be, or have I made that up?
Iirc, over 100 used to be a threshold for some sort of dangerous driving charge if plod felt like throwing the book at you.Did it ever used to be, or have I made that up?
Although that could be just myth and legend.

We have increasing access to Eastern European databases (much to the surprise of some Eastern Europeans) and regularly run operations where Eastern European Police come over and work with us. The biggest problem we have is the reluctance of insurance companies to act when we identify fraudulent insurance. We have identified one particular wide spread scam and aim to seize any vehicle we come across using it. But despite speaking to insurance companies each time, they appear entirely indifferent to voiding the policy. It's very frustrating.I have complained to the police and given names and addresses of invidiuals who have abused the rules only to be told that they are powerless to act as they have no way of checking foreign licenses. Really? I thought we just cancelled policies for fun.
My experience is actually the opposite where we are handing cases over that a 12 year old could successfully prosecute only for the police and / or CPS to decide not to pursue.
The only time there appears to be interest is when it's an Al Capone style prosecution and gets rid of a local gangland family.

Nope. They constantly repeat 'we will have to contact the Policy holder', despite us repeatedly telling them the policy holder does not exist. They demand multiple forms with a reply 'within 28 days'. Hopeless. .

We have a requirement under the RTA and an expectation set by the FCA as to how we treat policyholders and that we have no choice but to comply. However, we take fraud seriously and any instance of that would be thoroughly investigated.

I'll have to beg to differ. The scam I'm talking about is endemic amongst Eastern Europeans. We've identified it. Identified dozens of vehicles in our area alone, but get no assistance from the Insurance companies when we point it out to them. It would be very easy to seize the vehicle for no insurance with a bit of cooperation We have a requirement under the RTA and an expectation set by the FCA as to how we treat policyholders and that we have no choice but to comply. The Insurer cannot void a policy immediately due to the say so of a police officer to allow them to seize a vehicle, as Loon mentioned it needs to be investigated and handled properly.I've seen a case on a forum where a wpc talked an Insurer into voiding / confirming the driver was not covered at the roadside and siezed the car due to her and the Insurers lack of knowledge. The poster received an apology and the seizure costs along with associated costs eg taxis etc were paid by the Insurer (Admiral if I remember)

It's not 'immediately'. We've collated a significant amount of evidence relating to certain vehicles. Some fraud departments won't even speak directly with Police and tell us to go through their call centre. Others tell us to expect a postal reply 'within 28 days'. Extremely unhelpful and with no apparent concern for the fraud being committed.
