So a tricky one here.

Basically my house has a long gravel drive, garage at the bottom. Outside house is pavement.

I have been parking on/off the pavement for 10 years. We weed where the pavement meets the road, everyone on our cul-de-sac weeds their parts of the pavements, makes sure there is no litter etc.

A scummy family have moved in further up the road, they don't have a drive. They have SIX cars. So as you can guess they have started parking their cars on all the pavements outside everyones houses. No problem. Except...

1. They keep littering, every day a new mcdonalds bag finds its way underneath respective car. And then just gets left there.

2. They love smoking...today I found 13 fag butts under the hedge that seperates my garden from the pavement.

3. And more importantly; one of them knocked on my door the other day and politely asked me to stop parking on the pavement outside my house, because "we have more cars and no drive so we need it". I politely told them to fk off.

Why don't we use the drive? There are 4 cars in our family, two in double garage, father parks his work lease car on the top of the drive so there is room for the 2 garaged cars to get past. I park mine on the pavement (half on half not so people can get past). Council say it is our responsibility to look after the pavement sections outside our respective houses.

I won't go into detail that this family are all on the dole whilst everyone else on our street goes to work, therefore every time someone comes home these people have moved their cars in the way.

TLDR: New neighbours have six cars, no drive, park outside everyone elses houses, then have the cheek to tell us we aren't to park there anymore because they need the room.

Sorry I realised I have not asked a question: What is the official law regarding this matter, so I can tell them where to go if they keep hassling me?

Quite tempted to get a pair of skips and put them on the pavement behind where I park, except when I come home I would have nowhere to park!

They may be obstructing the highway. Although what's sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gander.

Don't forget you'll need a licence from the council and lights etc etc wink

They have as much right as you to park on the pavement. None.

I have no idea. I assume adopted however the council/road people never do anything to/for it, and we are responsible for keeping it weed and litter free.

To summarise. Some new neighbours have moved in who are lower class than you and you don't like it. They have as many cars as you do and it offends you. They are also quite unhealthy through diet and habit. You are very house proud and they aren't.

You are Hyacinth Bucket.

No I am getting pissed off that some new neighbours who blatently don't give a st about anyone other than themselves seem to think they have more right over everyone elses properties than their owners do; and then litter all over them.

Just yesturday one of them decided to park on one of the elderly neighbours drives ffs! The elderly won't say anything obviously they know this.

Then here's an idea, as you are not afraid to tell them to "politely fk off", why don't you tell them how you feel amd ask them to politely buck up their ideas? You could respond in kind too, or you could take the.moral high ground and just ignore it after cleaning it up. They may get bored.

However, one thing does stand out is that parking is the least of your concerns. Why do you feel that you have to be the champion of the elderly couple? You seem unwilling to do much about your own position other than post on here about how you're tough enough to tell them to flick off, bit unable to do much else.

You've got used to parking on the pavement outside your house. You have no right to do that and nor do they. Arguing that weeding it gives you some rights is bks. Fact is that whoever gets there first seems to be the one who will park there. Laugh at the idea that they've asked you not to and either stay out of the elderly couples issues, or get directly involved, but stop posting on here and do something.

Seems like so some lower class folk have moved into your street, they chain smoke and eat fast food spreading tenor litter far and wide.

These people are on benefits how do you know this? I thought they were all broke and spend all day begging at,the local food banks since the Tories took over? Not driving half a dozen cars?

So let's get this right you and all your neighbours park on the pavement these lower class have some many cars they do this near your properties and they are not wothery to park on your pavement ?

I fixed the problem by parking my car in the middle of the pavement and stopping them parking front/rear of it due to no more room smile

I fully expect my car to get keyed/smashed at some point but that is what insurance and CCTV is for...

And yes, I don't see why people who don't pay tax (yet can afford to smoke and go to McDonalds) think they can take a dump on everyone who do!

Oh, the irony.

But, anyway. Lemme get this straight...

You have several cars and a drive. They have several cars and no drive. You think you have more right to the roadspace, because.

Just... because.

Here's a clue :- They, I, everybody, anybody have just as much right to park on the road outside your house as you do. It matters not one jot how déclassée you may feel them, or how hard you try to justify not parking in your own drive or who was there first or who eats their five a day or who recycles or who has the biggest dad. And that's a LOT more "right" than anybody has to park on a pavement. Ever.

B'sides, how come you have to live so near such terrible poor people?

OP has no right to park on the pavement and local plod my well take exception to it.

I think the OP is also drawing conclusions as I doubt he has access to their financial status they may have family money etc. How does he know they are on benefits?

Don't panic OP. From what you've told us about their lifestyle choices, give them a few months and their collective arteries will probably clog and mass heart attacks ensue, maybe during a particularly tense section of X Factor or whatever those types watch on their massive, wall mounted TVs.

Park in your own drive, play nicely and show some tolerance.

Who me ?

I can sympathise, as it's something reflecting today's values. I'm making an assumption that the OP and the elderly neighbours have got dropped kerbs and therefore rights of access. I believe that someone once posted an update to the idea of dropped kerbs in areas where decrin parking is in force, to say that it's council enforcers that look after abuse of this, and where as before, it was an offence to block a car in, but not to prevent access, the law has changed to give council enforcement powers to enforce unauthorised blocking of dropped kerb drives. I've had this problem for 17 years. Our road is narrow, so that if I park properly and someone parks opposite partly on the pavement, an ambulance cannot get past.
