56 in a 30 - what can I expect?!
Discussion
May I just say that the Austrian cops who relieved me of a whole 60 Schillings for yamming it, barely a kilometre from the border with Germany, wore VERY snazzy uniforms.
The most CSB thing about this is that I was driving some POS Hyundai. Who knew that it could break any speed limit?

Really? I'm sure the standard PH argument is that you can drive everywhere at a billion mph in Germany as there are no speed limits
I thought Germany was so ok with speeding you could literally put some Bridgestones on a Bullet train and away you go. Who knew?Oh how things have changed, I was caught doing 57 in a 30 limit some 25 years ago. The officer was hiding down a private drive and suddenly jumped into the road. He had to jump back pretty quick as I passed the driveway before stopping .
It was a fair cop and I bloody well thanked him , if that had been a child running out I would have killed them, lesson learned and ever since I have been a better more considerate driver.
3 points and forty quid fine those days

Quite clearly you have missed the point of this thread. You appear to be taking responsibility for your own actions, whereas you should actually be complaining about the fascist speed camera nazis that we now have (Godwins will feature continuously) and how you will now immediately leave this country, as it's going to the dogs and full of Eastern European immigrant scum. The irony of your new immigrant status will be lost on you of course. Bear in mind that this should be interspersed with comments about being law abiding, persecuted, quoting Niemoller brings additional Brownie points and bemoaning that you've never, ever, ever even considered exceeding a speed limit ever, ever, ever, let alone done it.

Are we to glean from your posts that you never ever complain about anything at all?Bear in mind that this should be interspersed with comments about being law abiding, persecuted, quoting Niemoller brings additional Brownie points and bemoaning that you've never, ever, ever even considered exceeding a speed limit ever, ever, ever, let alone done it.

Funnily enough, this case led to the installation of a speed camera which is still in operation today. It was a fair cop and I bloody well thanked him , if that had been a child running out I would have killed them, lesson learned and ever since I have been a better more considerate driver.

The picture in the link is very misleading. The road where the officer was killed looked like and still looks like this:

The wider point being that cameras are frequently sited in inappropriate places. The death of one Police Officer trying to catch drunk drivers in that spot is no justification for a 30mph limit and camera in perpetuity.

Speaking for myself I start quoting Niemoller if I have to wait more than thirty seconds for coffee in Pret a Manger.
Well there's your biggest mistake right there; everybody knows you should be presenting the mercurial retailing wisdom of Mary Queen of Shops on such occasions. Got pulled over after an unmarked car clocked me at 55 in a 30. Standard £60 and 3 points, no court.
Road in question had a lake on one side and a beach on the other. The 30mph limit is meant for mid summer Saturday afternoons when it's packed with tourists, pretty pointless at 11pm in Janurary though.

Its running the risk of derailing the topic, so apologies for that OP, but in fairness I think your question has been answered.
The whole UK system of punitive punishment for what are often minor and unremarkable speeding 'offences' is a joke. You only begin to realise that when you step outside of the UK madness and experience something else.
I left the UK going on 10 years ago, and one of things I definitely do not miss is the frankly absurd points system.
I know a lot wont agree with me, but that is often the position of people who have spent their entire (motoring) life under the UK system and have not experienced anything else.
I think that being caught 4x, at as little as 5mph over (what are very often arbitrary and unneeded) limits = loss of licence, ban and all the crap that goes with it.... is an unbelievable system.
I've lived in NL for a while now (a country that generally hates cars by the way), no points here for speeding unless your are doing something very, very daft. Its just a fine, expensive fines at that, but at least the government are open and honest about the locations of cameras, why they put them there, and don't deny for a second that its a massive money making exercise, neither do they hide behind the 'mask of safety'.
Go too fast? pay up, move on! Everyone's happy, none of this messing with court cases, losing your job, retaking your test.
You are of course welcome to your opinion, as I am welcome to mine. I still maintain losing your licence for what I did is fugging madness (I accepted the 'punishment' and got on with my life BTW), but its crazy to be put in that position on the whims and fancies of idiots.

We seem to make minor speeding offences more punishable than any other minor crimes and almost criminalise normal law abiding people who commit a minor infraction. Other crimes such as theft you seem to get conditional disharges etc but for speeding as you say its a fine and points. I also find any police officers no longer engage with you and just like filling out the forms and issuing tickets almost as if they have a target to hit.
