Parking Ticket Question
Discussion
Received a parking ticket today for parking as per the photo. Think I may well be in the wrong but still confused by the signage. I know its not totally clear in the photo but there are 2 signs on the one lamppost with the left bit stating you can pay to park (which I did via phone) and the right bit with an arrow pointing the other way stating residents only.
The bit that I totally missed when parking was the fact that there was a dividing line within the bay. Can anyone explain this sign to me, as the lamppost that it is on is well to the right of the dividing line. Happy to be wrong just would like to know exact meaning for future reference as can't seem to find an answer elsewhere on the web.

Was if defo for not having a residence parking permit? could be for not parking within designated spaces?
Haven't for the ticket in my hand right now but that part of the ticket listed a few different things including not displaying a ticket which is irrelevant as I payed by phone so u assumed the ticket doesn't give the exact reason. Will check on the web in the morning as it wasn't coming up yet (says can take 24hrs to show up)
As its a long bay that then continues and not one designed for a single car and I am well withinf the next box, would parking across 2 boxes be totally incorrect and even a resident with permit would get a ticket for doing so even though they can legally park in either bay with their permit?
Pay up, OP, and be thankful if you avoid an appearance on "You park like a twannock.com". You are plainly and obviously straddling two bays. The photo says it all. The signage isn't a factor, save that it makes it clear that you are in two zones at once. Look at the post and the arrows relative to your car!

Indeed and you are totally correct.Edited by Breadvan72 on Tuesday 9th September 05:57
Just so it is clear these parking bays were the type covering the entire length of the road. If this had of been a resident who could legally park in either box under the law would they still get a ticket as I am curious?
You may have a get out, I think (could be wrong) that as there effectively 2 different bays, with 2 traffic orders, there should be an end marking to show the two different bays. I think it should have 2 white lines 90deg to the pavement to show the end of the bay.
It would be a technicality as it’s fairly obvious the intention of the signs and the future changes to the TSRGD with prevents this sort of thing but it could be worth a try.

Don’t take this as correct though, I’m not too good on parking.

I'm more in love with the fact they've saved me around £500 in the last few years. Most of the members are extremely knowlegeable and helpful, and dare I say it a lot less judgemental than the average PH user Ace1650cp said:

If it was outside any of the London Boroughs look at this list
http://www.patrol-uk.info/site/scripts/documents_i...
If it was in London look at this one (most of the codes are identical but some of them e.g. 50-54 are unique to the capital).

If you are planning to post up on pepipoo it will be pointless without the code on the FPN.
I could understand some sort of confusion or annoyance if you were parked to the correct side of the lamp post but still happened to be in the resident bay, but you are along side the lamp post even if the road markings weren't there.
If the bay markings were in line with the lamp post, it looks like your wheels would have just been over into the resident bay anyway (only just!).

Further to my earlier post. The OP's only chance imo is on a technicality - e.g. defective signage and/or bay markings. Even then his observational failure to observe he was straddling the dividing line between bays is going to seriously undermine his case for disputing the FPN. We'll have a better idea if/when he comes back and tells us what the contravention code is
