The police are 'allowed' to place speed cameras on any road at any time. Just loom at a UK road atlas and that will show you the road network, that's where the police can and do carry out speed enforcement.
When I "complained" about the location of a local one (on a blind bend and conveniently almost hidden behind someone's fence) a very nice man called me to advise that they only attend locations based upon complaints of speeding received from the general public the inference being that it's absolutely not located in revenue generating locations "on purpose" ...

I had a long email converstation with that knob Edwards from the Norfolk chapter of the speed racket. He'd set up a collection facility on the beautiful new A11 near Snetterton. His propaganda on the website claimed they only collected where accidents had happened yet he was on a brand new bit of road which obviously had no history.

The miserable lying parasites.

WHY WOULD A GOOD DRIVER NEED TO BOTHER ABOUT SPEED TRAPS ?
Well because good drivers will drive to conditions which are increasingly out of line with the posted limits since cars and roads are getting better while speed limits are getting lower.

Also, the lying hypocrites running the speed camera racket know that richer pickings are made just at those places good drivers have identified as where they can get their toe down a bit, despite the pitiful low limit.

Here's a great place to catch people for speeding. There is a long stretch of road which is safer than the 30 mph limit suggests, and I know about 20 people who have an sp30 from the van that used to sit half way around the bend. (Not me!!!)

There must have been a KSI on a road somewhere close to there which they'll use as justification for scammin on that (different) road. And since no more deaths the next year (and none for the past like 10 years plus probably either) they'll post up another "win" on their propaganda site.

What's more amazing is the number of useful idiots lining up to support the racket.

And what are those cyclists doing there blocking the road when there is a cycle path on the LHS?

Regardless or not of the road conditions, the speed limit is the speed limit.
