It clearly fking is.
Have to agree.
Who else drives round with blue and yellow battenburgs and words similar in appearance to "Polite".
Just because he has the word Garage on there as well does not IMO lessen the impact of the rest of the markings. People are obviously going to notice the blue and yellows before anything else.
I wouldn't be happy with that thing driving around personally.

It's a bit of a Piss take but there again so are the Horse riders!! More to the point How much did it cost and Did they do it themselves? Only thing that would be cooler would be a Caddy with the Golf R's 4WD and engine.

I keep seeing a cyclist with a hi-vis tabard with blue battenburg checks and "POLITE" on it. One day, he'll stop beside me at the lights and I'll pretend to think he's a policeman and politely ask him a question.

Yes its one of Geoff's work vans, Focus RS powered. I doubt the police would be interested, its clearly not trying to be a police van, its just an advertisement.

If it is advertising why is the other works van parked next to it sign written in a completely different manner?

And, what has polite got to do with advertising the business?

Anybody who wears a hi-viz with "Polite" on it, and van's in this case, should be prosecuted for impersonating a police officer IMO.

Issues of impersonating a Police officer aside, how does high Viz with the word Polite on it cause anyone any inconvenience?

The only reason I can think is that it causes you to take action that you would not otherwise have taken, i.e. you behave differently because you mistake the person for a Police officer. Does this not raise more questions about your behaviour than the person wearing said item?

It shouldn't matter whether the rider is a Police officer or not, the way you drive should be unaffected.

I don't condone impresonating a Police officer but i've seen plenty of Horse riders wearing those high viz Jackets and don't have an issue. They catch the eye and so are more likely to be noticed which for vulnerable road users is a good thing and they don't take more than a glance to spot that it isn't actually a Police officer.

I personally think this is another case of people getting hot under the collar about something that doesn't, or at least shouldn't, really matter.

I disagree. It's not necessarily my driving or actions, it's others reactions. I've seen people slam their brakes on when they see this. Much like they do when doing 20 mph in a 30 limit when they go past a speed camera.

If someone is the sort of motorised tt who doesn't slow down for horses but slows down if he mistakes POLITE for POLICE, how is that a bad thing?

Polite horse riders I can understand, as well as cyclists and bikers. Increasing visibilty for more vulnerable road users is good and I dont have a major problem with it.

But a van fully liveried up like a police van including the crests is a piss take I am sorry!

As an advert yes it has worked as it has generated this discussion, as a technical showcase putting an RS into a Transit connect its very very cool, but pretending to be a police vehicle on the public highway its crossing a line!

Not only that but the driver last night was driving like an absolute dick, plain and simple and that is more my issue than anything, there is a time and a place for acting like a dick with a van/car and its not at 6pm on a monday night on the public highway. Get your arse on a trackday or a private road and act the fool.

I didn't say that. It's actually more about the person with the fake liveried up vehicle driving like a tt under the guise of their hi viz tabard and car.

I know, but I was addressing the issue that some seem to have with horse riders wearing POLITE vests. Ditto bikers. If it makes Mr Hoony Mter pay attention, then good.

I disagree with both tbh. Horse riders less so, as they are just trying make themselves visible and force inconsiderate road users to modify their behaviour. Bike riders wearing this are tossers though. I had the unfortunate experience of coming across a mass rideout a few weeks back in Yorkshire where self appointed beardies decided they had the right to block main roads for minutes on end to let their entourage wobble out.

So by this token do you must have a problem with actual Police officers as they will get the same reaction.

So perhaps the answer is to get rid of all marked Police vehicles/officers then just in case a plonker panics and hits the brakes when they see one?

Had exactly this on Sunday, over 50 bikes running in convoy at 30 to 40mph on NSL roads. Impossible to overtake because there was such limited space between the bikes. At junctions and roundabouts a couple of them took it upon themselves to block the road so the convoy could take their sweet time toddling along. Self-important aholes.

If the garage owner ever had a visit from the BiB I doubt he has a leg to stand on as he's clearly able to logo his Astra van without any doubt over its ownership/purpose/use??
