[Who me ?]

I'm getting sick of them messing in my garden. Local owners take exception to my dog chasing them out. What's the position if I place hunane cat traps in my garden and move the"pets" ,which are allowed to run freely in gardens ,to a better life in a farm .

I suspect because at some stage someone is going to beat the s**t out of him for it. Or worse.

You can use a super soaker with some lemon juice added. Cats don't like the smell and aren't like to return.

Removing them may result in criminal and civil proceedings, or, a severe kicking, or worse, someone doing something nasty to your dog.

For allowing his dog free use of his own garden . He isn't letting it out in their garden!

The first thing a cat owner will say when someone complains about it crapping in their garden is that they can't stop the animal from doing what nature has programmed them to do and it would be cruel to keep it indoors all the time, I would think they would then understand the same argument for the dog being allowed out in the garden .

Not in my garden they didn't.

Had a nasty problem a few years ago, one of those sonic deterrents sorted it in the end.

Why do the cats come and crap in your garden anyway?

I find it hard to believe that cats' are actually coming back to your garden to crap whilst there is potential to be ripped apart from a dog, they're not that daft, unless they are feline adrenaline junkies.

Also is there such a thing as a "humane cat trap"? I suspect trapping other peoples pets is illegal.

Why do you think capturing other peoples cats and releasing them on a farm somewhere is:

A. Nice to do to a pet
b. Not illegal

By all means relocate them to a farm, however they are probably microchipped and will make their way back eventually
If you kidnap enough of them the local cat people will possibly work out whats happening

I recently read about something called Lion Dung or suchlike...sole on Amazon and ebay I think.

Kilo bag - spread some on your garden - cats are scared stless by odour - seemed to work well.

Some of the posts on here are sickening.

Cats roam, it's what they do. Keeping a cat indoors is cruel and against their nature. Here's a newsflash...cats aren't dogs and to expect them to behave like dogs is just moronic. Cats don't obey like dogs...they will always be partly wild. Which for some is the attraction of cats over dogs.

I don't have a clue where my cat 'goes' because he can roam for up to a few blocks and he is generally gone for most of the evening. Having said that, I do check around surrounding gardens from time to time and check and clear any common spots more regularly. I would suggest a quiet word with the owners if you know who they are. Worded correctly, it would be a very unreasonable cat owner who would not sympathise and try to assist with keeping your garden clean.

Alternatively, there are many natural ways to repel cats from certain areas. Google 'natural cat repellent' and you'll get a few ideas.

Trapping a pet and taking it away from its loving owner is not one of them.

Likewise, if someone trapped my cat I would take better care of her in the future. And that better care would involve a sincerely unpleasant experience for the person who trapped her.

To the OP: how would you feel if someone poisoned your dog?

Lemon Supersoakers are good but need you to stand sentry watch for a while before they all get the message. Citrus peel in the flowerbeds can work for a while, again, they don't like the scent.

Lion Poo - I think Tiger may also be available - is what I've heard most often recommended. Got to be worth a try.

Based on some of your posts I regard you as vermin. Does that make it ok for me to throw dog turds into your garden?



WRT the OP, I have a cat and I also have had the same problem as you with other peoples cats using my garden as a toilet. Just encourage your dog to chase them.

As others have said, cats will usually bury their poop as they are clean animals. They also wouldn't usually try and go to the toilet where they can smell a dog either, so unless you have seen the cat doing it, chances are it's probably foxes. However some cats, especially older ones, are a bit daft so there's still a chance it could be the cats.

In terms of getting rid of unwanted visitors, we have three cats and one of them when we first got her ran away (they are supposed to stay indoors for 8 weeks when you first get them). The local cat rescue that we got the cat from let us borrow one of their traps (similar to this http://www.trapman.co.uk/cat-trap.htm) to try and catch her, but all it did was catch all the neighbours cats that were walking in our garden.

Believe me once a cat gets caught once, they will not return to the garden for a long time, if ever. So I would definitely suggest trapping them using a humane trap and releasing them off your property. The cats will get the hint and not come back, especially if they have been in the trap for a few hours, as I expect you work during the day so won't be able to release them until you get home.

Unfortunately you will get militant cat owners who will go nuts at that suggestion, but their cat is trespassing on your property so either they keep it indoors or suck it up and realise that they can't tell you what to do on your property. As long as you are not harming or unduly distressing the animal you've not done anything wrong legally or, in my opinion, morally. I know that if my cats are in someones garden and they chase them off it's their property so they can do that. If they harm my cats then it's Police & argument/altercation time.

Alternatively find out who's cat it is and take your dog for a walk and let your dog run around in their garden. If they complain call them a hypocrite and wander off?
