So I recently bought an RX8 for a bit of fun. I'm thinking the front number plate spoils the look of the car. I'm thinking of getting a stick on vinyl plate and attaching it to the front bumper left hand side.

I'm guessing that is not 100% legal. Not totally sure why though. Just wondered if I'm actually likely to get pulled for it, if its in the correct font and spacing etc.

Alternatively, just take the plate off, snap it, keep it under the seat as proof it just broke yesterday when someone reversed into it.

Then it doesn't appear you're deliberately using duff plates.

I put a stickon plate on the bonnet of our offroader after breaking the numberplate multiple times.
Just used to keep the broken one in the boot to show that I am not taking the p1ss, and that im trying to stay as legal as I can given that the front plate was easily damaged and broken.
Never had an issue in 4 years of driving with it .. and saved a fortune on replacement plates.

You could have elaborated a little or maybe not have bothered posting anything.

Let me elaborate further for you dear.
>I'm considering doing something I know is illegal because it will make my car look cool and yolo swag jdm as f**k
>will I be in trouble for doing something illegal?

"it looks cool" should never be the reason for anything ever.

Yes.
If he'd said he was doing it on for aerodynamic purposes I'd be more supportive wink

Sorry to have upset scarble's sensibilities to the point of sarcasm. At least I think it's sarcasm because I have no idea what 'and yolo swag jdm as f**k' is about.

This is piston heads. Driving with blatant disregard for the law is only cool or acceptable if you do it in a car worth at least £100k. Do it in a ste mazda and you deserve 12 points, an instant ban, and your car crushed.

reference - any thread with an Aventador with no number plate, etc etc

Oh no, I love Mazdas and my car is worth about the same as an RX8, although I think with an Aventador the speeds reached mean the aerodynamic benefit might be greater, though in reality no Aventador is ever going to do more than 60mph (through a London 20 zone, shortly before coming to an abrupt stop in a post box) and as such I also disapprove of both the illegal number plate and the vanity driven modification.
You could have argued aero, you could even have argued weight saving, but just for looks? loser

Yeah because engineers NEVER do something on the basis of it looking cool.

Some things done for looks ruin a car, but plenty (like a colour change) that don't. This falls into the latter category IMO.

I'd never put a vinyl plate on the front of my 5 series but would consider it if I had, say, a Mk1 MX-5 or Viper.

I have never been pulled and mine isn't even full size (pic on profile) I would venture to suggest that you would have to find the most bored plod in the world to get punished for a full size vinyl.

Done strictly for looks #yolo #swag #gangsta

Your stuff must look so boring if you picked nothing you own based on looks.
