I think the rules changed to state the water companies are responsible for sewer pipes on your land when the pipes service more than one property. Google it I cant remember what the right term is but the law was changed. Having said that, I imagine getting the water companies to act might be more difficult. However in reality if this work is done properly the whole thing might flow better so could be worthwhile even for you.

ps this might be better in homes and gardens as it not really a 'law' thing imo.

Ah, sorry, I didn't realise there was a forum for that! Yes, you're quite right. If someone can bump it over that would be great.

The water authorities were handed responsibility for this in October 2011. We had about 40 meters of pipes and 3 manholes replaced this summer all courtesy of Anglian Water, and Claret the contractors did such a good job within 3 weeks you couldn't see where they had been. Apparantly it cost just over £30k.
