On the BBC website is this little gem,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29362419

All the motorists caught on the wagons CCTV system are far too important to wait a couple of minutes to allow the guys to do their job safely, instead they all take to dodgy overtakes on the pavement some of them fully on the pavement whilst doing so.

I hope they were all prosecuted as well.

Is the Law going to apply to Binmen round our way that park astride Zebra crossings and come down the wrong way in one way street - just because it's early in the morning ?

Very stupid, although seeing as those cretins at my local council schedule the bin pickup on a major commuter route for 8:30am every Wednesday I'm not surprised people get frustrated

Watched a bin man get very angry once with a car pulling around the wagon (perfectly legally) and the bin man decided it shouldn't have so kicked the car......was quite happy to report said bin operative (who had a distinctive look) to the council who seemed rather unhappy at his attitude!

6 off one, half a dozen of other. The local council here schedule the bin collection on a major road right at rush hour. And they do often not park in a manner which would not cause problems to motorists. Not that some of the car drivers were angels tho'. Today, I had to turm my car around, and go another way 'cos the binny men put their truck in the centre of the road, and it takes at least 10 minutes for them to travel the lenght of it. Daughter had to catch a specific timed train. Only just made it to to the rail station.

Militancy in general seem to be getting worse. Back in the late 90's / early 2000's I used to cycle everywhere on the roads, kept in and allowed cars through and never had a problem. These days you have militant cyclists everywhere who seem to be obsessed with their "rights" and "safety" even though very little has changed in the past 10 years. Makes me embarrassed to be a cyclist frankly.

We have militant breast feeding mothers. Frankly I couldn't give a crap if someone breast feeds in public or not, and in fairness neither did most people. Now we have breast feeding demonstrations. Utterly don't care.

We have militant binmen, militant obesecycle drivers, militant postmen, militant parent and child parking issues...

Can't anyone just exist, do their fking job / hobby and just get on with it without thing having to be a fking statement of some kind?

Sheesh...

The bin men where I used to live where a bunch of s. They'd stop in the middle of the road when there was about 10 foot of space at the side they could have pulled into, they'd chuck the bins down people's drives, often hitting their cars, instead of simply putting the bin down like a normal person, and were generally rude and ignorant. A year or so back I got stuck behind one for ages, so I got out and asked them why they couldn't simply pull into the massive space next to them instead of blocking the road for everyone. The guy I spoke to immediately tried to start a fight, so another guy (presume he was a senior bin man) pulled him away and apologised to me.

I'm well aware that they've got to do their job, and I don't mind being stuck behind them if there's nowhere they can pull in, but I reckon a lot of them take great pleasure in holding people up and generally being complete knobs.

i saw this report on the news
loads of clips of absolutely disgusted public, they always is when they do something like this, people get so worked up about traffic issues, driving slowly on the pavement is hardly worth getting worked up about. People are perfectly happy to walk that close to moving cars in a supermarket car park all the time, but as soon one mounts the pavement, they may as well have stripped naked painted a swastika on their chest marched into a church and taken a massive st on the alter, in the middle of a service.

Shame the bin wagon containing the utter cretin who verbally abused me then spat through the open window of the van I was in (yes, really) into my face didn't have CCTV. Or it may have done, but Biffa (the contractors) swept (pun not intended) it under the carpet when I complained.

I asked him to move over as the wagon was in the middle of the road more than wide enough for two cars, to be met with the abuse and spitting. To be fair I don't care about the verbal abuse (upon being called all names under the sun I did tell him to FRO, which didn't help the situation), but the spitting is lower than giving someone a whack in my opinion. Guy was an utter cretin who deserved to be run over.

So, yes, my opinion of bin men is fairly low hehe shame as the guys who used to come around the neighbourhood when I was a kid were lovely, let me push the button on their truck to raise the bins and everything! beer (Easily amused as a child hasn't changed in adulthood)

Not a binman, but do they possibly park in the middle of the road to access the bins on both sides of the street without a stream of cars coming past?

Quite a few cars in that video got between the binmen and the bins, so it just takes longer.

I'm also assuming that they would probably opt not to collect on main routes during rush hour, if the funds for longer routes existed.

I wonder how much time the bin men are given for a round and that will dictate the parking in the street. Around here on one route they just drive down the middle of the road and block the lot but if they are likely to get pulled in front of the gaffer for taking too much time, who is to blame?

My 2 year old son is currently obsessed with all things that pick up waste. Every Friday he waits at the window for the Binmen to come and every time the make an effort to wave at him.

Considering the nature of their job. Picking up people's st. I can't fault them around here! At the end of the day they are working in traffic on live roads. A few seconds for a decent overtake is no skin off my nose.

As per normal on the road its a case of me me me me me, the motorists in the video are too ignorant to realis that their actions delay the workers emptying the bins which means the road will be blocked for twice as long

The binmen round here are a law unto themselves.

They leave bins in the road, won't pull into gaps to allow cars to pass and shout at you if you try and overtake.
