She had a fair trial & was found guilty. Whatever she gets as a consequence is her own fault and nobody else's.

Hopefully this will send a message that criminals will actually get punished; this is long overdue in this country imho.
I'm not saying she shouldn't be punished...simply that it should be proportionate. I'm not a soft Liberal and will happily kick the chair out from under the feet of the bds that have robbed this country blind. My point is just that three years in prison and the loss of her professional standing would have been punishment enough, and would have meant she could keep her child. This I feel would have been enough. After all the MP's that defrauded us of hundreds of thousands didnt have their children taken away

I seem to recall seeing some research showing that women generally received disproportionately harsh sentences when compared to men.

I'd agree. If it wasn't that she was a PCSO. The punishment should be higher the same as anyone in any position of responsibility and trust like that.

I`m afraid the stuff about punishment fitting the crime is clearly a load of old bks,for want of a better expression when you consider this:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/cctv-captures...
It does not matter what paper reported it or their political stance, you can clearly see for your self.
That poor fella.
Stealing a bit of cash is worse than being a repeated danger to the public and then killing someone, what a fking joke!

However I don't get what her kid has to do with it.

The point is that her kids will suffer. They are total innocents yet their lives will be blighted. The father is not around so that leaves them in the care of the LA, and from the experience of someone close to me, not to mention reports in the media, it is ot the sort of think I'd wish on anyone, let alone a child.

On top of that, it is a tremendously expensive system.

The article does specifically state 'conceived before she was charged' which might be relevant.

Just seems like a breathtakingly stupid scam. Harsh sentence maybe but in such a position of trust, and then using that position to offend...

If her family were "wailing" why can't a grand parent or other family member take them in?

Children shouldn't be victims but they shouldn't be the excuse either.
