It strikes me that if you're going to fit an obviously illegal plate, why bother having one on at all?

Just trying to save myself the 5 mins of replacing the plates is all should it not be required. Saying that, a re-test is free so if it fails on plate hangoffyneess I'll screw the legal ones on.
Just leave the legal ones in the car and tell the MOT bod, up to him whether he bothers.

That, Justin, is a stupid idea. It's unlawful to operate a hand-pull jettison device whilst driving, and once stationary, the plate will just fall off and lie there for all to see.
Nay trashbat, you are a step behind.

On a right hand drive car, the party popper string on the drivers side of the place will naturally be shorter.

Thus, the pull of the lever will activate this popper a split second before the nearside one - hence firing the plate to one side.

So, as the OP sees the rozzers he simply pulls the lever before or during his reduction in speed to expunge the plate into the verge at a time that the rozzers will not even notice.
Not if it's the handbrake it isn't.

Choices - fail for incorrect spacing or fail for not being visible.

Oh the irony! rolleyes

Here's a couple of tips for you:

1) If you're going to criticise others, at least get your facts right first!
2) When you post a criticism, always ensure that your own post is beyond criticism!

The lack of a hyphen after the colon is also poor

Incorrect:

"The colon (:) seems to bewilder many people, though it's really rather easy to use correctly, since it has only one major use. But first please note the following: the colon is never preceded by a white space; it is always followed by a single white space in normal use, and it is never, never, never followed by a hyphen or a dash — in spite of what you might have been taught in school. One of the commonest of all punctuation mistakes is following a colon with a completely pointless hyphen."

But it is DUCT tape, with "Duck Tape" coming along as a brand name that merges the t at the end of duct and the beginning of tape so it all runs together.

Actually, it was invented in WW2 as a water repelling adhesive tape. At that time it was nicknamed 'Duck' tape.

After the war it's use became widespread and the colour changed from green to silver. A this point people started referring to it as DUCT tape.

So really, either version is acceptable.

I only know this because we had a discussion about it in the office once, which resulted lots of 'googling' for evidence. (Assuming the results we found were true of course. The internet is not known for being full of factual information!)

So, any other areas of vehicle legislation that you've decided are optional?
It's incredible that you've never broken a speed limit, well done you.
