Or could he have been referring to the Muslim requirement to take shoes of when entering a place of worship?
Seriously?
At Stanstead airport??
Yes, it's irony isn't it.
You're asking me to take my shoes off before I go through here. But I'm not a muslim and this isn't a mosque. I'm a 75 year old athiest / C of E / etc and this is Stansted Airport. Oh my days.

Yep, those were the days
Love Thy Neighbour and the Black and White Minstrels on the telly
Jim Davidson and Chalky

Times move on I'm afraid...
Only in one direction though, only the caucasian side are ever racist, which was an earlier point I made that seems to have been missed.

"Kill the infidels" ....... that's ok.

"I'm not Muslim" ............arrestable apparently.

Is it just me ?
No, not just you.

I have actually made the same remark myself...
Well then you're as much of a fking moron as the guy in the article. Bravo.
100% agree, makes you as nasty & ignorant as him.
I'm surprised the pair of you can make it through the day without bursting into tears if you get offended by the phrase "I'm not a muslim".
What about, "I'm not Greek"; "I'm not American", "I'm not Christian"? Offended by those phrases?

Do you honestly think a comment about not being a muslim in response to being asked to remove your shoes is in the same league as burning a poppy or dressing as a suicide bomber?
Do you honestly not believe otherwise? What do they all have in common?

1) They are all opinions
2) all are distasteful to "some"
3) none hurt anyone directly
4) all are done to cause offense
5) all are done to get a reaction
6) all are ignorant, narrow minded statements
7) none should be publicly defended

So why should we treat them differently? OAP directly and obviously publicly insinuated Muslims are all would bombers, mass murders. If I was a Muslim I'd be deeply offended, especially if I (as the vaaaaast majority do) find the extremists & terrorists as awful and deplorable ad the rest of us.

Christ guys, all I'm saying is we all need to be held accountable to the same standards. We can't have one law for "them" and one set of laws for "us".
Hang on, "if I was a muslim I'd be deeply offended", so this is you *not* being offended? Bloody hell.
And if you're not a muslim, then surely that means if someone asks you if you're a muslim you'd have to reply: "I'm not a muslim", but you say yourself that's ignorant, narrow minded, bigoted, racist etc.

People really are missing the whole point here. Either deliberately, or through ignorance.

What's the context? If someone said "are you a rapist?" And the response was "I'm not black!" See what I mean? Casually conflating Muslim with terrorist is the same thing.

The point is a bloke made an off hand comment (which happens to be perfectly true) and is arrested for racism.

What ever I - or anyone else is asked - it may be slightly odd, but it's not racist to reply with something that you're not.

"Are you a rapist?"
"No and I'm not a murderer, a lawyer, a politician, a jew, a muslim, a musician, a teacher or a llama either"

That's ignoring the context. Surely you can see this?

Yer, the context of an insane world populated by vicious dangerous cultural Marxists wanting to make their impotent little lives seem powerful.

Context?
You mean being asked to remove your shoes, like you would if you were a muslim upon entering a mosque?
That kind of context?

Walking down an aisle in Tesco half an hour ago, there was a rather loud voice in the vicinity of the self service checkouts...

You're racist, you're racist, you're racist, you're racist, you white bd...

Not sure what to make of this topic after watching Four Lions the other night. Muslims taking the piss out being a Musslim, what ever next.

Hackney, you make a lot of sense and I'm definitely in your camp.

You're at an airport and you set off the security alarm. The security personnel ask you to remove your shoes. Do you:

1/ Comply and remain polite and cooperative or

2/ Make a smart arse remark about Muslims, then refuse to accept a caution?

The old fool had it coming, keep your trap shut and get on your flight.

On it. Still booking in the one from earlier, but I'll be as quick as I can.

For the record OTBC, I share your view points absolutely.

ETA - new iPhone....bigger screen and yet harder to txt and for some reason autocorrects earlier to eatlier. Yea, that makes sense. Doing my head in.

Never buy anything with Apple on it, unless you want to be ripped off.

PS...don't sit on it, the screen will break...smile

Dammit, am I being fruitist here?

No, just very stupid. There's a time and place to make vaguely racist remarks about why you feel you shouldn't comply with official directions. Airport security isn't one of them.

Unfortunately, I think that's becoming more and more apparent. Paying for the name. My own fault, couldn't be arsed with changing everything over from iTunes to another format.

Anyway....back to arguing if you don't mind...

And stop being fruitist, or you're coming in too. I'm already on overtime.
