I can't believe people are defending him. He made an obviously offensive comment in front of (I imagine) Muslim guard and got what he deserves. If we are gunna string the Islamic extremists up for burning poppies, dressing as suicide bombers and preaching their nasty opinion then we must hold ourselves accountable to the same standards we hold them to. How are people not understanding this!?
Is that what we're doing? Blimey.Mk3Spitfire said:

Since when did it become illegal to offend someone?
Since the introduction of the Public Order Act in 1986 for one. If you are going to be pedantic that is. Not to mention the civil laws of defamation and slander.

Defamation and slander are concerned with untruths, not causing offence, afaik, but again, if you can point to the specifics where it says offending someone is illegal, I'd be grateful.

I get offended every day. How do I go about getting these miscreants arrested? That officious traffic warden for a start...
No offence if it's against traffic wardens! They doesn't make sense looking back. What I should have said is that I will personally take your complaint and deal if it's a traffic warden complaint!

Can you point me to the specific section of the Public Order Act 1986 where it says offending someone is an offence? I can't seem to find it.

Like I said, you're being purposefully pedantic and facetious. Public order acts covers words or behaviour which cause harassment alarm or distress. We are not talking about simply offending someone, and you know it.Defamation and slander are concerned with untruths, not causing offence, afaik, but again, if you can point to the specifics where it says offending someone is illegal, I'd be grateful.
CPS SAID
-Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS East of England, Frank Ferguson said: 'Following receipt of the evidential file a full review of the evidence took place.
'In order to successfully prosecute a charge of racially or religiously aggravated disorderly conduct, we first have to show that the language used was threatening or abusive and in these particular circumstances we could not show that to the high criminal standard required.'

OAP directly and obviously publicly insinuated Muslims are all would bombers, mass murders.
Did he really?Or did he insinuate that there was no point getting him to take his shoes off as he wasn't a Muslim hence far less likely to be a suicide bomber.
Unfortunately at present the biggest terrorist risk to the UK is Islamic extremism, its not nice but its a fact.
Similarly 20 years ago it would have been the Irish which equally was not nice, but was again a fact.
Why does the shoe scan take place? Because a Muslim tried to blow up a plane with a bomb in a shoe.

Not at all. Please concede that offending someone is not automatically illegal.
Never said "offending" someone was. Please conceded you're splitting hairs.Like most low ranking coppers you have a pretty hopeless grasp of the law.

So if it isn't offence, how did it alarm or distress the poor 'ickle security guard ?Someone is taking the piss here, and I don't think it is the chap who said he wasn't Muslim.
I actually think it is a bit of a farce, this racism stuff, if it decends to this level.
As a Constable I'd expect you to identify that.

Thanks for admitting you were wrong to imply that the Public Order Act 1986 and civil laws covering defamation and slander made and make offending someone illegal.

I didn't imply anything of the sort. Try spending your time reading posts instead of trying to think up insults. I never mentioned offending, I mentioned harassment alarm and distress. Like most low ranking coppers you have a pretty hopeless grasp of the law.
You also have no idea what rank I hold.
You can keep slipping in your "offending" argument all you like, it does nothing other than show you are struggling with anything else to come up with.

It's not my job to do any such thing.Someone is taking the piss here, and I don't think it is the chap who said he wasn't Muslim.
