Evening all, got home to a letter from a car hire company stating the the French authorities have contacted them regarding a traffic violation which occurred during my hire at the start of September (I can only assume speeding as there was no mention of what the infringement was in the letter).

Question is, will the French police follow this up now knowing the driver was from a different country?

Will it be held against my passport in case we visit again (most likely next year...)

Probably just be a case of the hire company charging the fine to your credit card.

They did state in the letter that they would be charging a €35 admin charge to my 'account'

I got done by a mobile radar unit while driving a hire car in France this summer. As per your experience I was informed by the hire car company, and a couple of months later received a penalty notice in the post. Paid my 45€ "driving tax" online.

They won't chase you but the "tax" will apply.

They are a pain in the arse 1km/h = 0.62mph and I have been done for going 4 of their stty little measures of speed over the limit, there is NO leeway with the scameras.

This is for the that hire company admin in providing your details to the authorities. No doubt the authorities will now correspond with you regarding the offence.

Not quite true, they reduce the speed at which you're flashed and then fine you on that.

I was flashed at 58 kph and fined for 54 kph. The 'amend' spells it our for you (if you get to see it of course).

I got flashed about 10 days ago doing 112-114 (satnav) in a 110 on the N10 between Angouleme and Barbezieux, there were three of us, I was at the back of another car in the outside lane overtaking a slightly slower car. Been waiting for the Avis all week, I think the proximity of the other cars might have obscured my number plate though.

The last time I was done was at 114 on the N10 just north of Angouleme. Apart from one speeding ticket in the UK 5 years ago my license is and has been clean since I was 17. Yet here I have been done for passing through a red light, I had a van full of glass and wasn't going to slam on for orange. I have had a 135€ fine for parking in a new handicap parking place in our village, the sign is hidden behind a plant pot and unless you get out your van and walk round the other side of the van you'd never see it. A friend of mine also got done, same place, same circumstances. They are really hot on anything moving or parked with very little leeway regarding speeding and speed cameras.

I got caught 3 times in succession by them near Caen. First one I was doing an indicated 97 or so in a 90. FLASH!

Hmmm, I thought, that's a perhaps bit strict. Next one I'm down to about 94 indicated. FLASH! WTF!!?

Next one I'm a needles thickness over, and FLASH!

The first one, fair enough, but the last two were crazy. We don't know how lucky we are over here.

Perhaps it was because the signs are kph and your speedo is mph?
