I have had the same car parked outside my house since the end of August. I'm not sure who the car belongs to, it is only a couple of years old, and in good condition. But it has never been moved, no one has ever come to look at it. It has road tax until 2015. None of the neighbours know who it belongs to. Is there anything I can do, or do I have to just let it sit there?

Possibly stolen? Call the police on the non-emergency number?

No idea if it's insured or not. I suppose I should drop the police a line.

It's a very quiet village, so I doubt it's stolen. But you never know! If the police say it isn't stolen, and it is insured then I don't know what to do.

Stick the reg in here and find out if it's stolen yourself.

I can't see that there is anything you CAN do. What rule or law is being broken?

Worth doing a check on askmid?

If you haven't already done so could you ask around your near-neighbours to see if it is perhaps belongs to a friend or relative's that has gone into hospital or abroad for a few weeks, and have left the car where someone can keep an eye on it?

If that doesn't bring up any answers then perhaps consider calling the police on the non-emergency number, just because it hasn't been reported stolen doesn't mean that it hasn't been abandoned, it could be there for any number of legitimate or dodgy reasons.

Mainly because I would like to park my car there. I don't feel I own the space, it's on a public road outside my house. But it's just been standing there for 3 months.

Is there a body in the boot? Give it a sniff.

Is the registration the same on the tax as on the plates?
Ring 101 as well, and ask - if it's not of any interest to the Police they will tell you, but you never know

There is no obvious smell of decay, I would lick the boot, but it's dark.

A couple years ago I had a second car that broke down so I parked it on a road with no restrictions. I was busy so decided to leave it for a few days. A couple of days later I started getting calls from the police saying residents had called them saying they were worried ambulances couldn't get down the road.

So I had to move it.

I got a recovery very early in the morning. The recovery driver towed it out and managed to completely batter a nearly brand new golf. The metal in the door was ripped open, and the light was hanging out. I didn't think it was anything to do with me, and he decided he didn't want to leave details. My car was towed to a scrap yard.

So if you want to be a dick you can. But it might come back to bite you.

Yeah, I don't want to be a dick about it, it's not a massive deal. It's just because it has been there for so long.

I had similar a few years ago.
This car had been parked outside our house for 6 months. Still had tax, MOT and was insured, yet no-one on the road knew anything about it.
Parking was tight for everyone to park directly outside their own house (no driveways), yet this car was parked in such a way to prevent 2 people.
The next nearest parking was a gloomy local pay and display.
The police weren't interested, so one evening, we bumped the back end into the road, thus causing an obstruction.
One call to the police regarding said obstruction and it was moved within half hour.
