I got a recovery very early in the morning. The recovery driver towed it out and managed to completely batter a nearly brand new golf.

So if you want to be a dick you can. But it might come back to bite you.
You watched this happen and didnt give details!
Indeed, watched a car being damaged, knew the culprit was not leaving details and did nothing !!!

I had similar a few years ago.
This car had been parked outside our house for 6 months. Still had tax, MOT and was insured, yet no-one on the road knew anything about it.
Parking was tight for everyone to park directly outside their own house (no driveways), yet this car was parked in such a way to prevent 2 people.
The next nearest parking was a gloomy local pay and display.
The police weren't interested, so one evening, we bumped the back end into the road, thus causing an obstruction.
One call to the police regarding said obstruction and it was moved within half hour.
What an ahole. Car was parked perfectly legal, but you didn't like it so had it towed.

But it was outside his house. wink

This being PH I'm surprised he didn't call the Army and ask them to use it for RPG target practice.

Yup. Damn right.

Would you want to leave your car in a pay and display overnight where cars regularly get broken into?

No I have a driveway, but if you choose to live in a house with no parking, thats what you have to live with. I'm not sure why you think that gives you the right to touch someone else property.

I'm away next year... Can I come and leave my car out side your house for a few months?

Unfortunatly, not all of us can afford houses with driveways and off street parking. Its not through choice, thats for sure.

You should try living near a busy railway station, when we did one of the neighbours had a car parked in her drive for 3 weeks while the owner went on holiday, police weren't interested. We often had our driveway blocked by cars, when confronted the drivers would just say they were in a rush and didn't have a choice! Again, the police were never interested.

I think your actions in this case were entirely reasonable.

This mentality is why we now live in the middle of nowhere.

Park one inch to far forward so you are in someone's perceived space on a public road and all hell brakes loose even if they have a driveway that can take many cars! Every housing estate seems to be the same... I dread parking in Wimpey type schemes, when visiting, as hell freezes over if you so much as park outside someone's house or across the road from their driveway!

Society seems to have turned into a bunch of moaning intolerant jenny's. It's a public road!!!

Anyway rant over smile

I had a similar experience recently. Have a look on your local Council website or give them a call. My local Council take a lot of interest on the basis that "abandoned" cars can often be used for storing stolen goods or "pool cars" for criminals.

In my case the Council were able to confirm that the registered keeper was local. They would not give out any other details but a Council warden visited the registered keeper and the car was gone a few days later.

I still don't understand how some people get so defensive over a public road that they do not own outside their house. Anyone can park there for as long as they like. It's legal!

If it's so much of a problem, ask the council to introduce parking restrictions or permit zones.

so you take a couple of 'actual' examples of long-term dumped cars that nobody knows about or owns locally and then complain about people short term parking being critised (when nobody has).

Good rant.

Me neither, but it certainly seems to get under some people's skin.

That isn't the right question for what you did.
"Would you want to bump someone's legally parked, taxed, mot'd and insured car into the road, such that it is towed away to who knows where, so you can park right outside your house?"
And the answer any normally sane person would give you, is no.

Sure, go for it. PM me and I'll send you the post code.
I don't own the road outside my house.
