Car parked outside my house

I was on the waiting list for 2 years for a council garage. Id moved out by the time I was offered one.
I'm in the same situation to you. I am not rich and don't have off street parking. My road has also only got enough parking for around half the residents and is right next to a university. So they park there as well. I park it further away and walk. If I get a spot I chose to only drive when I need to.
I wouldn't dream of trying to force someone to move. I had it done to me again recently. Someone asked me nicely to move so they could get there pram down a path. Then proceeded to stick bins in front of the path when I did so. I didn't complain but won't be moving again.
The road isn't yours. So stop acting like you have a right to park there. Accept that it's part of the reason why your rent or house was cheaper.

Didn't I?
Because of course you're so familiar with the situation right?
Yes, I am. I lived in a London street called Station Road with uncontrolled on-street parking. Then West Hampstead (same). About 3/4 of the time I had to park several roads away from my home. After a while I realised that I ought to think a bit about the parking situation before buying the next place. We live and learn.Because of course you're so familiar with the situation right?
Look, this is a forum for people enthusiastic about their cars. It should come as no surprise to you that bragging about your antics - moving someone else's car into a hazardous position, so that TPTB would move impound it and cost the driver a decent chunk of change - isn't going to win you a lot of friends here.
PMSL.
In under two pages, we have now moved from the original post:
''There is a car that nobody local knows about (so could be stolen) that has been parked outside my house - what advice should PH give me?''
(We did get one bit of advice about finding out if the car is stoeln/dumped).
to...
''I dont know what your f-ing problem is, you selfish bd. YOU dont own the road AND anyway I have too many cars for the road outside my own house and I like to park outside my neighbours houses without being told that I am the real selfish bd, so I will shout you all down''
If Landbroke gave odds on PHers defending something anti-social that they liked to do, we would all be millionnares!!

When I moved there, you could park there all day EXCEPT 1-2pm unless you had a permit.
This stopped people parking there all day.
The council then lifted that restriction, leaving us in situations like this.
I'd never have moved there if that restriction wasn't in place.

This mentality is why we now live in the middle of nowhere.
Park one inch to far forward so you are in someone's perceived space on a public road and all hell brakes loose even if they have a driveway that can take many cars! Every housing estate seems to be the same... I dread parking in Wimpey type schemes, when visiting, as hell freezes over if you so much as park outside someone's house or across the road from their driveway!
Society seems to have turned into a bunch of moaning intolerant jenny's. It's a public road!!!
Anyway rant over
no it's more the selfish attitude of cars owners who dump their cars outside people houses and don't give a st.Park one inch to far forward so you are in someone's perceived space on a public road and all hell brakes loose even if they have a driveway that can take many cars! 1. who lives in a neighbourhood where everyone pretty much parks on their drive or outside their house and respect their other neighbours ability to do the same, if they get an extra car.
2. who lives in a neighbourhood with more cars than spaces
3. who lives in a neighbourhood, where it has always been the case where everyone just finds a 'space' as close as possible to home.
People's responses to the above, will go a long way to explaining their attitutes:
Myself I would say 1.
The only time it changes, is when families have visitors, and then everybody knows it will only be short term.

I might take you up on this. It's such an arse finding someone who doesn't mind these days. Where do you live?

Bit too far away, then, but I do sometimes meet people at the airport, so I'll be in touch. I have some pals in the vicinity, may I give them your address? Nothing bigger than a tall Transit...
As long as its white, not silver. I'd not want my neighbour mistaking it for his while hung over.LucreLout said:

I imagine it will be all the bits which he mentioned, and which you didn't. You spun his story in the manner of an opposition politician.
Now you're just trolling. It hasn't taken me long to learn that you have a reputation for this. Goodbye.Lawbags said:
I had similar a few years ago.
This car had been parked outside our house for 6 months. Still had tax, MOT and was insured, yet no-one on the road knew anything about it.
Parking was tight for everyone to park directly outside their own house (no driveways), yet this car was parked in such a way to prevent 2 people.
The next nearest parking was a gloomy local pay and display.
The police weren't interested, so one evening, we bumped the back end into the road, thus causing an obstruction.
One call to the police regarding said obstruction and it was moved within half hour.

Lawbags didn't like the fact that it was parked outside his house (apparently he seems to believe that the section of public highway outside his house is reserved for parking his car only! ), and the fact that the car was parked in a position that was preventing a second car parking on that stretch of road.
Whilst the car may have been inconsiderately parked, it was still perfectly legally parked and Lawbags had no right to move it just so he could park his car there instead!
TBH, Lawbags sounds like a complete tt! (And you sound like
Amazing, yet typical, PH thread.
Apparently it's your problem for being poor if someone parks outside your house for long periods / causes a disruption / obstruction etc.
This despite the fact that most of London is on street parking and the houses aren't exactly cheap.... actually don't parking spaces regularly go for 1/4 million?
Jesus, well done for living somewhere else. Really, bloody good show. You really are an amazing person for having done so well that you got a drive. A fking drive. For fks sake.
BTW who ever was offering long term parking outside their house please post the address, I'm happy to leave my car there too as you don't seem to mind.

What's amazing is that some people seem to think they have rights over the piece of public road that happens to be outside their house.Apparently it's your problem for being poor if someone parks outside your house for long periods / causes a disruption / obstruction etc.

I'm particularly loving the way the guy who abandons a wreck, then ignores the fact the tow truck trashes a brand new car extracting it is mildly rebuked, while some poor sap who dares to bump a car into the road after 6 months is pummeled into submission.Apparently it's your problem for being poor if someone parks outside your house for long periods / causes a disruption / obstruction etc.
