But why not Cats ?
Cats aren't covered under the notifiable animals for some reason. Basically anything dog and bigger, but not cats.

I suppose ' walking distance ' depends on the person, for me a 15 mile hill walk is recreational so what should've been a relatively short walk home was made much longer than I expected due to concussion (i went in the wrong direction for some time) and it was middle of the night and crossing fields etc (prob should be prosecuted for trespass/criminal damage to cowpats too).
A 15 mile walk is about 4 hours for a healthy fit person.

Why cross fields which will be muddy as hell this time of year, unless you wanted to avoid being seen for whatever reason?

Basically dogs and farm animals. Deer, cats and elephants are not reportable. Dogs are a historical hangover from when dogs had to be licenced, abolished in 1987 when it was 37p. Still needed in N.I., £12.50

Interesting fact. I assumed it was because cats are almost considered vermin by some.
Also, if I hit an elephant on the road, im definitely phoning the police.

It wasn't 15 miles, if you read my post correctly, that was just an example of how far someone/I could walk.

Again, it also wasn't 'this time of year', this happened in (late) summer.

Given what the OP has told us so far, Can any of the officers or lawyers on here think of a reason the CPS would push a charge of DWDCA ?
A witness and there being more to it.

I'm sorry, but I can't resist....

That would be a trunk call?

Greendubber- if there were a witness or witnesses, would the PC disclose that during interview, surely he'd need to?

S'ok, weren't discussing anywhere specifically, like all good PH threads it's wandered off on a tangent about the duties of a driver & what makes an accident reportable.

I actually expected more of a wtf's a hinny response. ( it's the off-spring of a male horse & female donkey for those that don't know )

Generally yes, "we have a witness that saw you do XYZ" etc.

Just a quick thread update/closure.

Letter from regional police hq, no proceedings at all to be taken.

All a bit odd but am relieved.
