Fuel tax has been static for years now.
The only reason fuel tax has been static is that any attempt to increase it any further would be a huge vote loser.

What about the old AA patrol's technique of saluting unless there was a radar trap ahead? Was that any less likely to get them prosecuted than actively waving a warning?

It's an offence where a constable is obstructed in his duty.
My bold. In the vast majority of camera van operations, the operatives are not Constables, but employees of the SCP. So now, convince me it's not about road safety and all about income generation to stop the SCP empire going bust. What's the difference between me flashing a motorist because I might consider their driving a bit OTT for the road , and my waving down a car full of teenagers on a housing estate to warn them that there's a group of young kids ( toddlers etc) playing further up , in and around a stack of parked cars?
What matters is why you are warning & the court will make their mind up as to why that was from all the facts.
They don't have to believe it was for the purpose you claim.

Hang on ,VON - what happened to the Constable. From what you first said, warning about a speed trap is OBSTRUCTING A CONSTABLE . Please EXPLAIN where the obstruction comes in with civilian members of a FOR PROFIT SCP.
Then ,can you ( unless you are doing a PITSMANSBOOTS procedure) explain the legal definition of "warning". And the offence. You now digress from "Obstructing a Constable etc" to a charge of "Warning".
Yeah good luck getting an answer on that one, I would like to see his reply but won't hold my breath, the cops keep telling us that they are nothing to do with the SCP's but Von is now claiming they are "constables" being obstructed in their duty so what is it?

edit just to make Von more at home...

Not read all the posts ....

Why help an illegal driver - its their fault if they are either incapable or deliberately breaking the limit

Because people should be allowed to hoon round at whatever speed they like. Speeding has no correlation with crashes and it's perfectly suitable to speed at warp speed whenever the need takes you. Speeding is purely policed for revenue and no other reason. It's disgusting that people should have to abide by laws if they don't agree with them.

Ah, IAM member, clearly you are Perfect and have never ever crept over the limit, or let your speed creep up and over the posted limit. Nobody said anything about helping the "illegal driver", just letting your fellow road users know that there may be a scamera van ahead, and now would be a good time to just check your speed...maybe.

Just over the limit - plod don't care - well over they do

In the 80s I got the full 12 on tot up and pleaded in court so I have been there and got the T shirt but all done deliberately in a 7.5 tonner so no moaning from me about it

The one thing I do know - all those that pass the test are perfectly capable of sticking to the limits - they proved that by passing

Fair comment. Not sure about "just over the limit bit" though.
Plod might not be bothered, but Scamera van partnerships simply view it as revenue, so I don't believe there is much room for manouevre...so to speak.
Pretty sure also that everybody is capable of sticking to limits, but with some limits being ridiculously low nowadays, it can be easy to let it slip.

Why not help them? A bit of community spirit - quite life-affirming really.

That is what Driver Awareness Courses are for after all- at a cost of course.

Cameras only collect their cash at dangerous bits of road. It seems to me letting someone who appears to be speeding know that the dead straight open bit of road they're about to drive on is actually a hugely dangerous accident blackspot with a flash of the headlights is a good idea. The camera parasites would rather have no income than have an avoidable accident happen surely?
Three lies/sarcasms in three sentences- impressive. I'll stick around & watch the self-righteous indignation occur. smile
What kind of fool are you, do you really believe all the 'Speed kills' hype? You do know it's a lie, right? I dispair. Enought people like you and we are back to man with flag walking in front of the nasty motor cars.

Yep me too, couple of weeks ago I was considering over taking a lorry doing 40 in a 60 until a van flashed us and I hesitated based off this flash. Low and behold mile down the road there the camera van was sat there. Probably would have clocked me as I drifted back down from the over take. Very grateful to whoever he was! smile

Duly did my part and reported it on Waze!

As I said, the courts are happy they can tell what's going on with warnings from all the circumstances. It's your licence you risk if you wilfully obstruct an officer.

This topic has been done to death many times.
In that first case what if he put the sign up to slow people down when there wasn't a camera there? Same thing, same place, same effect (slow people down)... only difference is the local plod didn't get there supper money. Still prosecute?

Years ago as pissed students coming back from the razz we saw a burglar climbing into a neighbours house, my mate rang the rozzers while I shouted at Billy Burglar he was about to get his head caved and ran at him with a big stick at which point he did a runner. As this prevented the police from arresting the chap (well it would have if they had bothered turning up) was I obstructing a constable in his duty?
