I've had the local paper out with me a couple of weeks ago for a few hours. No make up and didn't take up any extra time, other than maybe a couple of minutes when they were speaking to members of the public.

I've been on Britcops and Cops with Cameras - I didn't have any makeup, and they certainly aren't scripted!
They filmed with my team for 3 months to get enough footage for the shows and the only "interviews" I did were 5 or 10 second bits to camera to explain what I was doing and why.

Who me ?

BUT, WHY, do we have all these sound bites quoting spurious stats. At least ,we now have Traffic blokes in white hats talking about speed "INAPPROPRIATE to the road conditions!" ,rather than the bland excuse of "speeding kills".
Locally we have a ring of ANPR cameras in the town centre, with a regular police ANPR presence inside that. outside that, I find a lot of vehicles ,which according to Direct.gov, have "paperwork deficiencies". Daily I cross one mini island, where I give way without qualm, as the vehicle on my left could be driven with failings on the regulatory paper work requirements ,or simply (as i often observe ), on the mobile. Any police traffic presence outside the town ring ? Not that I've noticed, and I pride myself on spotting unmarkeds - Hendon trained skills stand out to those older motorists.

Has anyone done a FoI request yet to discover how many police hours are misused in make up and in front of the camera to crow about how fun it was to do 130mph and catch someone to tell them driving at 90mph is dangerous? And how ironically they did this on the hard shoulder with sleeping truckers whipping past a foot away?

Obviously this should be done in their own time, but is it...?
You really are a proper bellend aren't you.

Most of these the MOPs get nicked because the camera is there.

MOP is a bit loud/upset, they then turn around and see the camera, at this point they get even more upset/swear/lash out ect and get nicked for it.

How are they allowed to film you in a police station as this is not a public place?

Do you think that you might be filmed at a police station as a matter of course? CCTV? Cells have cams? To expect no filming to go on in a police station would be silly.

Although I do think some LOVE the camera being there, and use cop-speak constantly because of it. "At this time", "effect a stop", etc, I'm sure wouldn't be used if it was just the two of them in the car. Maybe.

I would imagine because they have the consent of the private property, ie the police.

There's a bit of a difference between CCTV and the BBC.

We had cameras in the Operations Room when I was working there.
We took incoming calls - 999 etc.
Definitely NO makeup!
Whatever came in at the time was filmed with due care to apply Data Protection Act to protect people - names/ tel numbers etc..
We ignored the cameras as we were dealing with people/ incidents LIVE not recorded.
When I see comments about the Police attitude etc in these program's I wonder if the persons commenting see the behaviour and attitude of the people being moved on or arrested in a similar negative light.
What people need to look at are the situations that are being dealt with and think hard about how they are handled.
It was a real eye-opener going to work - as a civilian- and see what has to be dealt with for no thanks at all But PLENTY of abuse and complaints.
Would I like to go out as a PC ?
No thanks- dealing with obnoxious people and stressful situations and desperately affected victims face to face?
How would you deal with it?

Who are you talking about? Original questions were good: I've often wondered about the hypocracy of plod going way faster than a MOP in order to pull them up where no one else is allowed to stop!

How would you suggest they pull people over without driving fast enough to catch them?

I was filmed a couple of times in the Custody Officer role during filming in NYP earlier this year.
No idea if any was ever/will be used.

The lone chap with a very expensive camera was pleasant and interested.
I had no problem speaking to camera about what we did and tried to achieve.

I think it was useful and they generally show the public the cretins we have to deal with on a daily basis.

I've retired now am out of the firing line.

From my experience (and it wasn't voluntary in any instance) the camera crews take up very little additional time from the officers. There may on occasion be a couple of minutes' set-up of kit or discussion about what to film / how to film, but the vast majority of the time they just shadow officers and film the result.

Had a fair bit of filming recently in my force in the control room and around the rest of the site. The film crews never intruded, and posted signs wherever they were filming for those that didn't want to be included in the shots
