Police TV wannabe stars
Discussion
Has anyone done a FoI request yet to discover how many police hours are misused in make up and in front of the camera to crow about how fun it was to do 130mph and catch someone to tell them driving at 90mph is dangerous? And how ironically they did this on the hard shoulder with sleeping truckers whipping past a foot away?
Obviously this should be done in their own time, but is it...?

excellent top tier trolling Obviously this should be done in their own time, but is it...?
Why are they wasted? They do normal policing things. There's no doubt how popular they are with people given how many channels have them.
I personally think it's lame and would never consider going on camera and don't like most of them.
I thought the recent custody ones in Luton were good, as well as the ones in South Yorkshire that explored policing issues more thoroughly.

You raise an interesting point.Obviously this should be done in their own time, but is it...?
What is the point of these TV programs? Usually to give an insight into how the Police (and similar public services work).
As such, from a Police perspective they are probably a good thing to spend time on - though I spose we all agree the Police shouldn't be diverting too much resources into it.
It is PR I suppose.
Obviously the tiem spent work it is fine to speak to the camera. As for the extra time - you are probably right in inferring they shouldn't be spending huge amounts of time on doing interviews - but I suspect they are not - as I say, it obviously means less tiem working but the question is does it pay itself in PR value.

Horrible shows. The American ones are even worse. The best PR would be doing the job in the proper manner and weeding out bad/corrupt officers. The police shouldnt have to resort to a scripted TV show to sway peoples opinions. In the Luton custody show, a man was given permission to smoke in the yard. I doubt that happens in real life. When I was held, they didnt even have the courtesy to call my GF even though I was asked and I requested they do, providing a number.
There are shows on TV about doctors, nurses, firemen and soldiers. I enjoy those as they show professional and dedicated people who want us to see a day in their working lives and not some scripted BS to sway the viewers opinions.

I have had the pleasure of working with some of the most hard working dedicated honest people you could ever meet over the years. I dare say they have offered more to humanity than you ever will.
Get another pass time that doesn't include moaning at every possible opportunity on the Internet because you really are tiresome.

I like the 'Police shows are scripted' bit. It's really hard remembering your lines when you're in the middle of a TPAC I have had the pleasure of working with some of the most hard working dedicated honest people you could ever meet over the years. I dare say they have offered more to humanity than you ever will.
