Dormant companies trading
Discussion
Evening,
A few people that I know have had issues with a company when buying goods/services for not an insignificant amount of money. There have been more and more stories are coming out of the woodwork of people that have had similar issues and one rumour arose of the company possibly going into administration. I had a quick check on Companies House and found that this company is supposed to be dormant. It's definitely the correct one as the address is correct, along with the name and the owners.
How do you report something like this to HMRC? We're not talking odd jobs here and there, we're talking £100k+ turnover in a year.

The company could have commenced trading since the last accounts and/or annual return were filed. AFAIK there is no reason to advise Companies House the moment that a company starts trading.
If you are genuinely suspicious of undeclared income HMRC would be delighted to hear from you, check their website for how to report. You will not hear from HMRC if they have found out anything as this could breach data protection rules. Finally, be circumspect as to who you tell about any reports you make about suspicious activity as this may constitute 'tipping off' under the Money Laundering Regulations, and may jeopardise any enquiry (eg if word were to get back to the company) & if so, is considered an offence.

They were incorporated in 2013 and have been trading from the outset. I can't find any links on how to report a company, only tell them as if I was the company returning to trading. Any pointers?
EDIT: Just found the web form on the HMRC website. Reported

You also need to check their accounting reference date. It is very possible that the filing deadline has not yet been reached.

You may have jumped the gun here and could end up with egg on face.

I meant contacting HMRC as if it was myself owning a company returning to trading from being in a dormant state. No longer matters as I found the correct place to fill the form in. Returns have been filed this year. You also need to check their accounting reference date. It is very possible that the filing deadline has not yet been reached.
