Hi Chaps

So I have an apparent aggressive dog what escaped and was aggressive to a passer by. And our local PCSO visited our house last night as a complaint has been made. The thing is we have 2 dogs and he wasn't able to tell us what dog and were having another visit tonight. The dogs in question do bark at people walking by but have never shown aggression they are Spaniel x Lurcher and a Wheaton Terrier.

He said they escaped through out fence which has gaps of 6 inches so im positive its not them they have tried to fit through but are the Wheaton cant get his head through and the spaniel can get his head but not his body as when I asked if they escaped how did they get back in and why didn't the person not ring the gate intercom where I was in all day so was my partner. This has really pissed me off as now were having to delay plans so the local police officers can come and have a chat. We have both dogs since they were puppies and have our daughter who is 3 there both excellent and we believe this is a fake complaint.

My FIL who is a solicitor has said he is going to be there and not to start anything until he has arrived. but how do I deal with this take it on the chin?

P.s MOD feel free to move but was looking for some general comments

Deal with what? If it wasn't your dog then it doesn't concern you.

I agree with above, whats the issue?

Ask them what evidence they have?

Someone could get confused, see a dog loose, think "oh must be theirs" when yours are tucked up in their beds

Mine are cute and lovely, but have an aggressive streak if they went out loose in the streets, I would take it on the chin, apologise profusely and put measures in to stop it happening again. But if I was sure they hadn't escaped and their was no reliable evidence or witnesses I would politely tell the police to jog on.

Deal with some making fake complaints about our dogs and having the police make 2 visits where we are adamant that it is fake. and its just a neighbour who has a grudge

Have you asked the police what evidence they have it was your dog given your dogs were in your property at the time?

The PCSO officer who visited last night couldn't answer this and said he was only here for a chat and too see if there was dog that was similar appearance in our possession. Then he said a police officer would return tonight after looking in to the complaint as he was just inquiring about it.

I can see why people are asking what is there to deal with. but if you were in my shoes you would be worried.

No La Liga. Ours haven't attacked another dog unless there ninjas and have sneaked out over the fence done it then climbed back in and have changed appearance biggrin

The only thing I would worry about is that your shoes almost certainly wouldn't fit me.

Apart from that, total non-issue. If there is a neighbour that doesn't like you then that's a social problem, not a police one. If it wasn't your dog, then there is no police problem. Simple as that.

Is it a PCSO coming around again?

If so, they aren't really going to do anything.

If it's a PC then they may wish to interview you, although it doesn't really sound like a dangerous dog incident. It will do you no harm to have a solicitor there.

My money is on a spurious complaint off the back of a neighbour who's fed up with barking dogs if the OP is adamant his dogs can't get out.

That's what my money is on plus we recently rejected there planning application for them knocking down and re building what would over looked our house entirely! I went round the garden in the summer and made sure there was no gaps where they could get out. and double checked this last night.

From the voicemail been left it will be the local Dog unit what will come round between 6-8 if he is available. We have 4 solicitors in the family so im sure 1 of them will be about but My FIL has taken it more to heart so he will be there.

Is there any suggestion it bit anyone or caused injury?

Sounds odd for a dog officer to come. Perhaps it's an officer who has the specialist training to identify a dangerous dog, but your breeds wouldn't fit that.

I expect you'll simply have a conversation and whoever will be gauging the temperament of your dog.

All has been said it that the dog was aggressive to a walker and that the Dog unit if available will be coming round tonight to see if they will be investigating. But the PCSO said that the dog was loose in the street and not on our property.

Just for more info we have a 8ft metal gate and fence with 6 inch gaps between the bars at the front and a 8ft panel fence around the garden

If they show up just show them the garden, explain the measures you have to prevent them getting out and show them the dogs. Also explain the potential malicious side of things too.

If your dog's are as you say they are and secured in the manner you suggest then it's just a paperwork exercise. If a complaint is made then the Police are duty bound to investigate it, pain in the ass for you but that's the way it is.

if the complaint has been made then the police are doing the right thing and investigating it of which I have no problem as the road the house is on leads to the local school cricket and rugby pitches so kids are using it everyday . but as you say its a pain the ass.

Neighbours..... We were looking after a friends dog and our then neighbour knocked on the door, quite flustered saying he understood we had a dog, and that it had done it's business on his lawn.
Then the dog came round the corner, it was a tiny little terrier. He went red and quickly appologised realising it couldn't have been our dog, as the poo was as big as the dog !!
People are quick to make assumptions, but it sounds like yours might be more of a vendetta
