MOT Clarification Please

I have a car on business contract hire that's coming up to three years old now. The V5 states that the date of first registration is 21 December 2011. However, when I have had it serviced, the the service invoice papers give a registration date of 01 December 2011. Which is the correct date to base an MOT on? The reason I ask is that the car is due back to Mercedes on 19 December 2014 so if the V5 date is the correct date I don't need to get it done.
