It is only fronting if you do not honestly believe the person being declared as main driver to be the main driver

You may however get into an issue that the handling of the quote between the insurer and the price comparison website has not been done correctly and when you get the documents through and check them, they have put the main driver down as the owner/keeper, or the policy holder down as the main driver etc, in your case it would not make much difference if they put you as the main driver, but if they have put your partner down as the keeper then that could become a problem.

Just to round this one off, insurer said main driver should be based on mileage rather than frequency.

But they didn't seem particularly bothered. Neither of us will commute in it.

My insurer Churchill swapped my existing policy to the Alfa for £21, and even waived the admin fee, which was jolly nice of them

They've been very good all round to be honest. The only down side is my wife's xs is now up to £450, though I can hardly blame them.

Really?
I'm fairly sure I'm right...but happy to be proved wrong.
I'm also fairly sure it's the policy holder irrespective of which driver is named as the main one. I did ask my insurer this exact question a few years ago when my Mrs got too big to drive her MX5 while pregnant. They confirmed the policy holder gets the no claims and also confirmed they didn't care who was main and named if we were married.

Evening all
wife has fairly knackered Alfa Romeo twin spark. which is SORN'd.

She's just written off my family car, so I'm bringin the Alfa back on the road.

We drive 50:50 in mileage terms: her the more frequent short journeys during the week, myself the longer weekend trips.

So, on to insurnace quotes.

If the vehicle was owned by me, fully comp insurance taken out by me, with her as named driver, who is nominated as "main" driver - costs about £100 less than if she owns and insures the vehicle, with me added as named driver, and her nominated as main driver. All accidents and endorsements disclosed like for like.

Car would be signed over properly - V5, paying the tax etc.

Question - could this be thought of as "fronting"?

As long as my discloses about who is driving are accurate, and I complete the paperwork correctly, can anyone see any issues with this (other than deciding how to spend the £100 I've saved *)

(* Actually, it will have to go on 2 new front tyres, given the 156 destroyed the inner tread of the existing ones)

Thanks,

Ian
If you think they could ever prove that you are the main driver then pay the extra £100. Bear in mind though that if she has a current claim going through you may get a surprise at renewal time - if you do another switch then you would probably have problems in the event of a large claim.

Which is exactly what I was saying.

I'm with LV. Both cars are in my name. Both of us are down as named drivers (along with son and daughter-in-law). Car #1 - wife is MAIN driver, Car #2 - is me. Yet car #1, wife drives most often but I do higher mileage. LV don't care - their systems just means you have to specify ONE person as main driver! Their response to the query "is this fronting?" was an emphatic "No".

We had this although we are not legally married in terms of a piece of paper but we live together, jointly own the property etc etc.

We have two main cars (and a third toy which is mine). on the V5 he owns the BMW and I own the skoda but he drives the skoda more often but does more miles in the BMW. It just got too confusing. In practice he takes whichever car he feels like and I get the other one. He gets first choice as he spends more time in it. We ended up insuring with same insurer but we each get our own NCD and it fulfils the conditions required for the classic car insurance on my third car.

So who is getting the NCB - based on discussions here, you are getting two sets of NCB, and your wife is getting nothing?

What's wrong with that?

Because wife is a main driver, she actually earns NCD if she wants to take out her own policy. (And I have that in writing). There's been no reason for her to take out her own policy since I'm registered keeper of both. Neither of us has made a claim in 25+ years.

My wife is a named driver and the main driver on my car and I on hers , I generate ncb on the car she drives (or not, long story) and she generates it on my daily driver , very common amongst married couples

Only with that insurance company, as they are agreeing to give her the discount if she takes out her own policy with them in the future. But as far as other insurers are concerned, if she has never had her own policy, she doesn't have any bonus, regardless of being the main driver.
